Cotoneaster berries

The cotoneaster berries are super red this year. Birds and photographers love their winter redness. Note: this plant has an extremely weird pronunciation. You might think it was “cotton Easter,” but no. It’s actually pronounced cuh-tone-ee-AST-er. Isn’t that something?

Tiny cyclamen

These darling little cyclamen plants bloom in late summer. I think this is Cyclamen colchicum. They like dry shade, quite useful in my Pacific Northwest garden.

Fritillaria or checkered tulips

These are not really tulips but bulbs in the lily family, and first appeared in the 1500s. I remember seeing them in old Dutch still lifes. They come back every year in my garden in Seattle.

Flower border

Always so challenging to get the flower border to bloom in concert, right? Even though the light is overcast, the flowers are cooperating, sort of.

Springtime sky

Looking through the archives for some sunshine, found this one of magnolia branches against the sky, taken one April day. You’re welcome.
