Teensy cactus babies

I have a south window and this time of year in Seattle I start to get direct sun. Two small baby cactus plants went and had babies of their own!

Baby bird

My carport has at least one new occupant. Mama (or papa?) bird looked like a dark-eyed junco. Small bird with black head, brown on top of body. Hubby reached way up to snap this.

Chicks for sale

Was in a new-to-me Wilco/True Value store in Bremerton, WA. I enjoyed the shopping experience very much, plus they had baby chicks. #iamsofluffy

Opuntia cactus

So much fun at the Botanical Garden (El Charco del Ingenio Jardin Botanico) in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Here is a close up of a nopal cactus. Spiky!

Nopal cactus (Opuntia or prickly pear) getting ready to fruit, I think.

Babies, San Miguel

Since the streets and sidewalks are quite uneven in San Miguel de Allende (vast understatement!), strollers just don’t cut it.

On our visit out to el campo on my recent visit to central Mexico, we got to see some animals. Three photos today!

Sunflower seedling

The weather has been so amazingly wet this month, breaking records in Seattle, but I want to do garden things. I started some seeds by soaking them overnight first, then put them in produce-type clamshells, the kind with holes already in them, and they sprouted in only 4 days! Here is a sunflower seedling showing its first baby leaves, not the true leaves soon to emerge. I love this image and am calling it my weekly Top Shot.

Silver baby ballet shoe

At a lawn party for a neighbor’s one-year-old, the cuteness quotient was off the charts. Don’t you want a pair of shoes like this in your size?

String bean seedling

I was late planting the seeds, it’s true, but I hope that the nice warm weather coming up will make these brand new string bean seedlings do their wonderful thing. They were my mom’s favorite vegetable and I think they are right up there with my own top faves. Easy to grow (but need a little heat and sun) and so delicious to eat, just raw from the garden. Hope, hope!
