Shiny red cherries

Just picked, from our dwarf, five-graft cherry tree! It bore nothing last year, so this delicious first picking is especially welcome. Below the cherries you can see the netting with clothespins hubby put on the tree a week ago.

Sweet red cherries, maybe Bings? Picked the first week in June in my Seattle back yard.

Flower border

Took this yesterday in the brilliant sunshine we had so briefly. It’s the flower border we put in two summers ago. Not too bad for just getting established. I’m trying to use fewer and fewer annuals so it will just do its thing, but of course there must be flowers continuously spring through fall, if at all possible. I’m working on it. The veggie beds are to the right.

Early Spring scene

This view of my backyard from the patio shows the magnolia tree and a few early bulbs with a dramatic sky promising rain. Visit Skywatch Friday for more skies around the world, and Blooming Friday for more flowers happening now. Pink Saturday will show more pink of all sorts. Scenic Sunday has more scenigasms. Have fun in blogland!

Backyard, one year later

I realized it’s been just a year since we moved in. We dug up lawn and planted bulbs, dug the vegetable beds, and in general dove in to a very neglected situation. Today the sun peeked out and this is what it looks like out there. Not as good as it will look next year, but such an improvement over last year!

Still another dahlia

They are so beautiful and they are still doing what they do: give such pleasure. Here is another, just for you.

Another Flower for Today

It seems I jumped the gun posting my flower yesterday, so nothing for it but to make another post. These dahlias won’t quit, not quite yet. This one is over 6 inches across. The late afternoon light was just right for the tender petals to glow, I think. Click HERE for more beautiful flowers around the planet.

Magnolia at sunset

magnbacklit1.jpg I am blessed with this magnolia tree in my backyard, and a hillside location that catches the very late, pink light of the sun setting over the Olympics. I’ve been trying to catch the magnificence of the tree in all its glory, and yesterday the light was just like I like it. Digital cameras are so wonderful! I would never have kept shooting like I did, hoping for the perfection of bloom and light, with a film camera. I just love that it’s all free!
