Bromeliad and slug

I took this photo because of the pretty center that looks a bit like a baby bird beak, and only realized when I reviewed the photo in my computer that there was a baby slug taking a drink!

Lavender bromeliad print

Here’s another image available as a print for your wall, one of 15 stunning images, an exciting bromeliad “flower.” All are 8″ x 10″ archival quality photo prints from my book, Flowers of Volunteer Park Conservatory: Blooming Month by Month. They have no watermark, of course. I’ve firmly matted them in white to 11 x 14″ and signed each one. You can check them all out and order here or by clicking on the Prints tab above.

Pink bromeliad

I love this kind of bromeliad flower. My mom used to live in South Florida (today she would have been 96 years old!) and she grew them in her yard. This pretty specimen was grown by the Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle, and it was blooming in May. Since this is one of the flowers in my book about the flowers there, I know the name is Silver Vase Bromeliad, Aechmea fasciata.

Visit Macro Monday, Today’s Flowers, Floral Friday, Weekend Flowers, Wordless Wednesday and Pink Saturday. You might try an odd search like “spiky” or a tag like Volunteer Park Conservatory on the right to see some new photos here. Thank you for stopping by.

Ephiphytic bromeliad

I hope I got the name right here. Please let me know if this is incorrect.

Anyway, isn’t it pretty? These are air plants, epiphytes, which live attached to bark and things in the tropical wild. I found this one in my archives from May of last year, taken at the Volunteer Park Conservatory.
