Oh they are cute, absolutely. As long as they stay with the fallen apples and leave my vegetables alone!

These plants are called green onions on the West coast, and scallions on the East coast, where I grew up. They grow well in my Seattle garden, coming back and multiplying each year so nicely.

Scallions (green onions) are super easy to grow and have lovely flowers as a bonus, which easily reseed new little scallions. This post is for Thursday Challenge, and the subject this week is “Youth.” And for Think Green Thursday, growing your own food is the greenest thing I know. Here are some scallions getting ready to bloom. I planted some seeds three years ago, and was surprised to find they come back every year, even spreading little new ones by seed. So firm and vigorous looking! In the back you can see some grape hyacinths, also an easy to grow and welcome sight in the spring.
