Some garden friends got together and we made a bunch of these autumn decor cuties with sedum from our gardens, craft supplies like hot glue, and mini pumpkins. Super easy, super fun. We didn’t scoop and plant with dirt, just glued them on. Maybe some of the sedums will make it enough to be rooted later. Or not.

Some moss, dried cones, and colorful sedum make a beautiful fall decor piece. Doesn’t it look like a flower?

I’ve had good luck with getting some red amaryllis to rebloom. I treat them like houseplants and give them summers outside on the sunny patio. The geraniums behind it do well that way, too.

Here is another post about something you just don’t see every day. This giant sedum heart, at least ten or fifteen feet tall (I heard it weighed several tons!), was a big hit in the lobby area of the Northwest Flower & Garden Show. This little hen-and-chicks sedum on my patio is only maybe 1.5″ or 4 cm. across, but it has an amazing flower (see 2nd photo below). I like these succulents because the circular leaf pattern looks like a flower, and then it HAS flowers. The individual pink flower is half an inch or so across.

Isn’t this an exquisite planting? Those new, dark petunias, some kind of yellow striped grass, a dark heuchera (pronounced HOOK-er-a) and the sedum with pink edges look so great together. It’s in front of the door at Seattle’s Volunteer Park Conservatory. Go see it.

I love the way these little plants look like flowers. They are succulents, quite small, of the “hen and chick” kind, and these particular ones thrill me with their pink edges. Sedums can live in an old birdbath planter, which few plants can do. Do not overwater!

I’m trying out yet another photo meme, Macro Monday. Seems like a fine photo idea to me.

Here are some succulent sedums, or hen-and-chicks, from my recent trip to the Bronx Botanical Garden in New York City. There are a million kinds of them (OK, maybe that’s a teensy exaggeration), but this hairy one is a bit more unusual. Sedums are so pretty, many like little flowers, and tough and easy to grow as well.
