Glowing cape

At last week’s last Lusio light art fundraiser at Seattle’s Volunteer Park Conservatory, this person went all out with their glowy LED cape, perfect for the occasion.

Feeding seagulls

The other day in Mukilteo, WA, near the ferry dock, a very scenic group of seagulls. Isn’t it cute the way the ones on the ground are watching her, all ready?

Mary statue and votive

I was at a funeral for a neighbor’s father. It was a lovely ceremony and very moving. The church had a beautiful niche on the side for the Virgin Mary. I lit a candle.

Volunteer Park Conservatory

Visited my favorite Seattle haunt, the Volunteer Park Conservatory last week. You can see that restoration work is progressing on the Seasonal House on the right. Full project is due to be done in December. Aren’t the outdoor plantings lovely?

The Maiden of Deception Pass

On our camping vacation to Deception Pass State Park in Washington, we stayed in the Bowman Bay area and hiked to Rosario Beach. What fun! The coast Salish native peoples carved large images, not totem poles, and this image of the legend of Maiden of Deception Pass was made for the Samish people by Fidalgo Island artist Tracy Powell in 1983. It is perhaps 20 feet tall! You can see the waters of the Pacific Ocean in the background.

I am participating in A Piece of Heaven, Skywatch Friday, Outdoor Wednesday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), Scenic Sunday and Shadow Shot Sunday 2. If this is the only photo showing below, be sure to click on Sara’s Fave Photos Blog above to see them all. Thanks for visiting and come back soon!

Taking a break

One way to take a break after a long car trip is to lie flat on your back on the carpet in the sunshine, like a cat. Naturally, the shadows really sing to me in this one. And the toenails. I’m calling it my Best Post of the Week.

Visit Shadow Shot Sunday, if you like shadows, and SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera) for well seen shots around the blogosphere. Don’t forget that if there’s only one photo below, click on Sara’s Fave Photos for the rest of them.

Woman ship statue

I know there’s a special name for this sort of statue, but I can’t for the life of me remember what it is. Anyone? She is from the prow of an old ship, and has a nice, inspired look about her. A goddess in an old-fashioned dress? And is that a very low cut neckline, or not? She is a bit dusty, but still so lovely. She lives at the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI), a wonderful and unusual museum in Seattle. And she casts a great shadow, I think! Visit Shadow Shot Sunday for more shadows seen around the world.
