Maidenhair fern
This is the signature fern of Seattle’s Volunteer Park Conservatory and they use them to fill in spaces and add texture to the showier plants. The little leaflets or fronds are about a centimeter, or less than half an inch. The frilly, scalloped edges and shiny black stems are so pretty! These are actually not too hard to grow in the garden or of course as houseplants, but do NOT let them dry out. See post below for update about the Conservatory.

Lovely fern. We call it “venushair” here in holland. I used to have this plant indoors, but now I can’t have it, my cat would “love” it too…;-)
I enjoy it when people share fauna. I will be sharing some of my own in the next week or so. They can be as fascinating as a flower. So, thank you for sharing this photo Sara, it is really a fascinating one.
Your photo has so much pattern it looks like a Photoshop pattern instead of nature.
Beautiful shot…it looks almost like wings on a stem
