Evening lavender garden

I adore these long days when I get to be in the garden in the dreamy twilight. Today I cut some of the lavender. There is a lot!

Roses with lavender

Some roses from my garden, with a few stems of lavender, on the first day of summer. The lavender is at the perfect stage for drying, before the individual florets have opened, but it works well in a bouquet, too. The peach one is Carding Mill, a David Austin rose.

Foxglove dots

I love foxgloves, such a good garden flower in my Seattle yard. Reseeds but you can move the little new plants easily, and they’ll bloom next year. Tall and elegant, their dots just float my boat.

Irises

Smelling like grape soda, these irises in a friend’s garden were a spring delight. The dark purple color of the lower petals is the finest velvet.

A friend’s garden has perfect purple crocuses in bloom. Finally, spring flowers are out there!

Lavender Grosso

I am lucky enough to have surprisingly good conditions for growing lavender. Most of it is pretty much spent at this time of year, but the lavender grosso blooms latest and is still nice to pick and dry. Intensely fragrant, it’s good in little organza bags in your closet to repel moths. But maybe I should make a wreath?

Just harvested lavender grosso, ready to dry for sachet or cooking.

Campanula ground cover

I love this plant, Campanula portenschlagiana or Wall Bellflower. It grows very well in my north facing entryway, under an overhang, so does fine in dry shade. The starry flowers and leaves are less than in inch across.
