Cherry tree buds

It finally stopped raining and I went for a walk. The cherry tree in a neighbor’s yard is ready to flower!

Lily of the Valley

I sure would like to post something from the outdoors, but it is STILL raining. These tiny lilies of the valley (lily-of-the-valleys?) were at the recent NW Flower & Garden Show in Seattle.

Orange tree with fruit and flowers

A few years ago I visited the Conservatory in San Francisco, California, at just this time of year. They had an intensely fragrant orange tree that was blooming and fruiting at the same time.

Tulips and a pansy

Another photo of those frilly tulips decorating my kitchen, and a special bonus photo of a mauve pansy macro. The ones with the faces are my favorites. I get to be Guest Friend at Today’s Flowers this weekend, so be sure to pay them a visit for some great flower photos from around the world.

Late summer dahlias

It’s been pretty gray and I haven’t managed to get outside much when the sun did peek through, so it’s back to the archives for a blast of sunshine. Dahlias are such summer stunners.

Brugmansia print

These lush, tropical brugmansia flowers bloom for long periods and can survive as houseplants in the Seattle area if taken indoors when it gets cold. I love their heavenly shapes and fragrance (they are also called Angels Trumpet) and used this image for the cover of my book. The swirly buds start out yellow and become peachy pink as they mature.

This image is available as a signed print for your home or office, one of the 15 best images from my book, Flowers of Volunteer Park Conservatory: Blooming Month by Month. Prints have no watermarks, of course. All are 8″ x 10″ archival-quality photo prints, beautifully matted in white to 11 x 14″. Shop here or by clicking on the Prints tab above.

Valentine tulips

This year my sweetie got me these pretty white-edged red parrot tulips that I can put in the garden for next year.

Pink ranunculus

At the NW Flower & Garden Show in Seattle last week of course there were exquisite flowers everywhere. Sometimes just one flower can capture an awful lot. I love this peachy pink ranunculus blossom in its abundant perfection. I love this image and am calling it my Top Shot of the Week.

Dried hydrangeas

Really, this post is about the shadows more than the dried hydrangea flowers. But I am proud of the flowers, as I grew and dried them myself.

Hatiora (Drunkard’s Dream)

These teensy yellow flowers bloom on my south window every January and February. So welcome! And since they are succulents, they certainly tolerate my forgetting to water them very well. I appreciate that, too.
