Shiny red cherries

Just picked, from our dwarf, five-graft cherry tree! It bore nothing last year, so this delicious first picking is especially welcome. Below the cherries you can see the netting with clothespins hubby put on the tree a week ago.

Sweet red cherries, maybe Bings? Picked the first week in June in my Seattle back yard.

Hellebores in sunshine

A friend has a good hellebore collection in her charming garden. Even with the cold weather, they bloom so prettily in late winter and early spring.

Pink pieris

Also called Japanese andromeda, pieris is a stellar shrub that thrives in the Pacific Northwest. And they are fragrant! Little bells of wonderfulness.

Cactus flowers

This is what’s commonly called a Christmas cactus, but it’s really a Thanksgiving cactus, or schlumbergera truncata, not a regular cactus. This year, this one is acting more like a Valentine’s Day cactus! When growing them, treat them more like a regular houseplant and don’t let them get super dry, before you soak the soil.

Such showy, iridescent, magenta and white flowers, on this Thanksgiving cactus in bloom.

Purple hellebore macro

I love flowers that bloom in wintertime. The weather is still very cold and gray in the Seattle area, but the hellebores are being beautiful for us, already.

White amaryllis

A new kind of decor bulb for me, an amaryllis in a wax jacket, all ready to go. No planting, no watering, all inside the bulb! How magical is that? We chose a large bulb and were rewarded with two flower stems.

Thanksgiving cactus

You can tell by the points on the leaves that it’s actually a Thanksgiving cactus, not a Christmas cactus. It actually bloomed right on time this year. Make sure you take care of them more like regular houseplants, don’t let them roast in the sun or get super dry like regular desert cacti.

Air plant shadows

After a nice soak and shake, these mostly tillandsia air plants are almost dry enough to go back on my windowsill.

Sedum on a pumpkin

Some garden friends got together and we made a bunch of these autumn decor cuties with sedum from our gardens, craft supplies like hot glue, and mini pumpkins. Super easy, super fun. We didn’t scoop and plant with dirt, just glued them on. Maybe some of the sedums will make it enough to be rooted later. Or not.

Some moss, dried cones, and colorful sedum make a beautiful fall decor piece. Doesn’t it look like a flower?

Fall light in my living room

My living room jungle is coming alive with the lower light angling in from the southern exposure.
