Frittilaria at the flower show

Back in February, frittilaria at the NW Flower & Garden show in Seattle—soon appearing in your backyard, if you planted some bulbs.

Delightful frittilaria, also known as “checkered tulips,” are pretty easy to grow in the garden

Illuminated cactus

My favorite haunt in Seattle, the Volunteer Park Conservatory, has been having light-art events. I love them. Here are some cactus plants with paper flowers added, all illuminated with black light.

Wedding flowers

I was at the Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle when a wedding was winding up. The florist did a fine, fine job!

So many kinds of lovely flowers in this wedding arrangement.

Poinsettias, outdoors

One of the great pleasures of a foreign trip is seeing what grows well there. I was so pleased to see this outdoor display of poinsettia plants in San Miguel de Allende, in Mexico, last month.

Happy 10th blogoversary to me!

Believe it or not, I’ve been posting my top fave photos on this blog for TEN YEARS! In honor of the occasion, I think I’ll post a photo of me, which I never do, taken by a friend on my recent trip to San Miguel.

Thank you, dear reader, for your friendly visits, and especially your comments. Right this minute, there are 24,319 comments in the blog. And not one comment—not even one!—has ever been anything but kind, sometimes insightful, and occasionally even admiring. What a different world from some other online spaces. Thank you all. Here’s to another ten years.

Succulent rosettes

On my recent trip to Mexico, I saw some extremely pretty succulents in my sister’s garden. Don’t they look like roses?
