We volunteered to be servers in the truly wonderful FareStart program in Seattle. It helps at-risk and homeless people learn restaurant skills and turn their lives around. They have a guest chef every Thursday. This sign was in the kitchen.

On May 1, I was walking on Capital Hill in Seattle and happened across this Native American ceremony. Not sure exactly what was going on, but there was chanting and much fragrant smudge smoke. Not your everyday kind of thing!

Went into a neat bookstore and bakery, Ada’s, on 15th Ave. in Capitol Hill in Seattle. A very different kind of place, just right for science nerds of all kinds. I loved the Calder-esque mobile hanging up there, and the pages of text make it a “bookmobile” of a different sort.

Here is another post about something you just don’t see every day. This giant sedum heart, at least ten or fifteen feet tall (I heard it weighed several tons!), was a big hit in the lobby area of the Northwest Flower & Garden Show. At the Northwest Flower & Garden Show there was something you just don’t see every day, a “wedding cake” made entirely of plant material. Isn’t this slice of “cake” adorable?
