Single rose

This is from a Crimson Glory rosebush I rooted from a cutting a few years ago. Here in Seattle we are expecting big rain, finally, so I picked this fall blossom.

Carding Mill rose

One of the first roses to bloom this year in my garden is a David Austin rose, Carding Mill. The weather is still quite cool and rainy in Seattle, and my fifteen different rosebushes are taking their time to bloom.

Apricot colored, almost orange, Carding Mill rose with soft shadows and a raindrop or two.

Julia Child rose color variations

The ‘Julia Child’ rose bush (own root!) is the star of my rose garden. Only a few years old, she is in her second full bloom this season right now. As the petals fade to cream, sometimes edged in pink, they do fall off quite easily, but are so very beautiful that I try to leave them as long as I can so as not to make a mess below.

Geranium bud

Sometimes the bud stage is my favorite. The sense of possibility!

Sundew bud

I adore my little carnivorous plant, a Cape sundew. It eats fruit flies and soil gnats! A few short months ago I transplanted the three little plants that were in a 2″ pot into a 4″ pot, filled with sphagnum moss. They are so happy—I need a bigger pot already! One just bloomed and now the second one is getting a flower.

Care tips: 1) Must sit in an outer pot kept filled with water about halfway up. 2) NEVER give it fertilizer. The bugs feed it. Learned this the hard way.

Tiny cyclamen

These darling little cyclamen plants bloom in late summer. I think this is Cyclamen colchicum. They like dry shade, quite useful in my Pacific Northwest garden.

This David Austin rose, named after the queen of butter, is worthy of her namesake. Blooming so bountifully!
