Irises

Smelling like grape soda, these irises in a friend’s garden were a spring delight. The dark purple color of the lower petals is the finest velvet.

Three succulents

The only name I know for sure is string of pearls for the middle one. Some kind of rosette with pink-gray leaves on the left, and the weirdest one, a cactus with long papery spines that are kind of like fingernails, but very pointy indeed, on the right. We’ll be getting sun in this window all winter.

Afternoon light

Just a few days ago, sweet sunshine in the afternoon on my patio.

Forest scene at Big Creek, WA

This campground photo from several years ago I offer as a way to remember what the woods feels like. Not this year for us, but maybe next year.

Dappled path

In the Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden in Seattle, a brilliantly sun-dappled path invites a stroll.

Old trees overarch this path in the park on a sunny May day.

Big leaves

This perennial plant with huge leaves emerging at the Seatac Highline Botanical Garden might be ‘Smaragd’ bronzeleaf rodgersia (R. podophylla ‘Smaragd’) because that’s what looks closest on google images. Let me know if that’s not right.

Toothed and notched huge leaves of bronzeleaf rodgersia. I think.

Outside the Conservatory

My favorite place in Seattle, the Volunteer Park Conservatory, was looking fine the other evening.

Geese in a park

Got to visit the Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden near the Ballard Locks in Seattle the other day. So lovely. Here are some large geese feeding on a lawn.

Autumn leaves, backlit

I admit this is from late October, but there are still pretty leaves out there, just not much sunshine lately.

Summer garden

In the other side of the year, my back yard flowers on a sunny day.
