These are not really tulips but bulbs in the lily family, and first appeared in the 1500s. I remember seeing them in old Dutch still lifes. They come back every year in my garden in Seattle.

It’s a special bonus when the time change day is sunny, especially in Seattle. This little crocus and its friend greeted me, all wet from the rain just earlier.

If you have a roomy, shady spot for a Japanese anemone, it has such pretty flowers. I love flowers that come back every year.

OK, now I know why these plants are called Bird of Paradise. Doesn’t this flower bud look just like a bird’s head?

My windowsill Minerva amaryllis bloomed earlier. Now a second bloom is happening, and the first bloom actually set seed! Below is a view of the dark brown seed and a second, unripe pod behind it.

I call this the Dr. Seuss plant because it looks so wacky. Checking google images, I see it is sometimes called paintbrush lily. The flower is about 1.5 or 2 inches. It is a bulb related to amaryllis. Notice the tiny leaves in the dirt. Last year it set a few seeds, and I got one to grow!
