Columbine in shadow

The columbines look very good this year. They respond very well to an acid fertilizer in the spring, and the flowers are big and plentiful. Here is one pretty one in a shaft of sunlight, with some rose campion in the foreground.

Red rose

My roses have begun. This year I used a better kind of fertilizer, with micro-nutrients, and am VERY happy with the results. Worth the money.

Chive flowers

Chive plants are great. Months of tasty herbs for the kitchen, and pretty flowers, too!

Thinking about going camping. This was taken awhile back on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington.

Abutilon

A fancy kind of abutilon (‘Tiger’s Eye’), with dark purple bud casings. Seen (of course!) at Seattle’s Volunteer Park Conservatory.

Horse and lupines

Browsing through my archives, I found this image of how the horse pasture next to our backyard used to be a few years ago. I miss Tawny. Now a big house is being built there.

Small tropical flowers

I was at Seattle’s Volunteer Park Conservatory last week. These pretty tropical flowers, which I can’t begin to describe, are maybe an inch tall (2.5 cm). Anyone know the name?
