Fuchsia basket

The photo archives of summer on a cold, dark and rainy December day yield visions of color and warmth. My hanging fuchsia basket was a good one!

Bucket of roses

The weather in Seattle is supposed to get seriously rainy, after some very fine fall weather. The only thing to do is go out and cut all the open roses for bouquets, because they’ll only get destroyed. Bonus image below of the bouquets!

Late summer flower border

At a spectacular private garden in Shorewood, south of Seattle. The garden’s owner thought it needed so much work. Gardeners!

Stargazer lilies

A friend does a really good job with Stargazer lilies. By the way, a great discussion of how these were bred in the fascinating book I’m reading, Flower Confidential.

Sunset at the Conservatory

It’s been a Volunteer Park Conservatory kind of week. Still waiting for the Corpse Lily (“Dougsley”) to bloom and emit its stench. In the meantime, here’s a view of the sunset through the Bromeliad house.
