Gardenia in the rain

I adore gardenias. They were my mother’s favorite flower.

Raindrops only add to the perfection of this intensely fragrant gardenia blossom.

Hydrangea at the Conservatory

Spring is bursting forth, and the Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle has their game on. Bonus photo below.

Double primroses

We had a brief sunbreak yesterday (oh, the thrill of sunshine in Seattle!) and I found that some things were happening in the garden.

Double primroses, prettily petalled, in the early spring garden

Muscari

Muscari, or grape hyacinth, was one of the flowers I saw everywhere at the NW Flower & Garden show last week, along with fritillaria, or checkered tulips (see below). Their light blue color was very sweet to see, and will be perfect for an Easter nosegay. #NWFGS

Light blue grape hyacinths, or muscari, decorated many displays at the Northwest Flower & Garden Show in Seattle

Cactus flower cake

At the recent NW Flower & Garden Show in Seattle, one display area had some incredible “cakes” decorated with flowers. I loved the colors on this one.

Orange tropical flower

Anyone know this one? LATER NOTE: Appears to be a kind of Leucospermum, also known as pincushion protea.

Unusual large orange flower with thin petals and curls in the center. Know it?

Fritillaria

These darling checkered tulips (not really, but that’s what they’re sometimes called) were enjoying a beam of sunlight at the recent NW Flower & Garden Show in Seattle, WA. #NWFGS

Fritillaria, or checkered tulip, can be seen in antique still-life paintings, and is easily grown in Pacific NW
