Red Thanksgiving cactus

My Thanksgiving cactus likes to bloom for Halloween. I’m OK with that.

Christmas ficus tree

No room this year for a regular Christmas tree, but it looks quite festive anyway, don’t you think?

My spot

This is where I have my coffee every morning. The sun comes in the south window this time of year, a blessing for dark Seattle. I love having plants right there.

Houseplants at solstice

We had a sunbreak, a very Seattle term for a brief appearance of the sun. The plants adore the light, pouring all the way into the living room at this time of year. May you have the bliss of a winter sunbreak often, and may all your leaves be green.

I brought the plants inside

I live in the Pacific Northwest so it gets kind of cold, with some frost, at least, most years. So that means moving the houseplants inside (ideally on an overcast day) and then finding room for them, which is the hard part. I’m still rearranging. South windows are so great in the winter, especially in Seattle. That low-angled sunshine (when it appears) will come all the way into the room in a few weeks. Outside the window is a peach tree on the right and on the left in back, a huge, ancient cedar tree.

Polka dot table cloth

I got a new polka dot oilcloth tablecloth. It works with my houseplants, so I am happy. My chair on the left, near my pile of newspapers.

Daytime Christmas tree

Our Christmas Eve day tree. I like how it looks in the daytime almost as much as the nighttime.

Houseplants in the living room

Like the kitchen shadows post below, I love bringing in the patio plants when the Seattle weather turns cold. On a sunny afternoon the feel in the room is glorious.

A south-facing window in Seattle is kind to houseplants in the winter time.

Sun shadows in the kitchen

I love a south-facing window as the sun gets lower in the sky. The plants love it, too!
