Red-orange hibiscus

Haven’t posted a flower in a bit. This stunning hibiscus was blooming at Seattle’s Volunteer Park Conservatory.

Small tropical flowers

I was at Seattle’s Volunteer Park Conservatory last week. These pretty tropical flowers, which I can’t begin to describe, are maybe an inch tall (2.5 cm). Anyone know the name?

Field of red tulips

I’ve been sick with that awful bug that’s going around, so here’s a shot from last year’s Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, north of Seattle, WA. This year the warm weather is bringing earlier blooming up there in Skagit County.

Table and chair shadows two ways

The other day it was sunny and the local Starbucks’ outdoor furniture looked like music to me, somehow.

And here it is in black and white. Which do you prefer? I’m undecided here.

Maritime Building

Driving on the Seattle Viaduct, soon to be no more, the stop-and-go traffic let me take this photo. The “golden hour,” truly.

African baskets

Another archive photo, but good in any season, a display of colorful African baskets at a farm stand in Skagit Valley, WA.

Leek flower bud

Leeks are remarkable plants in the garden. The first photo is the bud enclosed in its casing, with several inches of a green spike on top, looking like an alien hairdo. Below that is the ripe casing falling away, and the buds of the flowers showing themselves. They are at about eye level for me, so a bunch of them make quite an otherworldly show.
