Snow falling on cedar

Yesterday when the snow was just getting going, it collected so beautifully on the trees in the backyard. That is one old cedar tree, and I’m sure it has seen worse storms than this one. And check out the bonus little video of the snow falling in the front yard!

Visit Watery Wednesday for more versions of water in all its forms. Outdoor Wednesday has more views of the world outdoors. This one is straight out of the camera, or SOOC. Scenic Sunday has more scenery, naturally!

Flamingo Hotel reflections

On last week’s trip to Las Vegas for that conference held at the Flamingo Hotel, mid strip, like most conferences we were stuck inside for long hours, but there was a short break that included a walk through the Habitat section of the hotel’s grounds, with real flamingoes, by the way. I’ll post them later, but today wanted to share how the hotel looked reflected in one of the pools for the abundant birdlife. Do you see the fish?

Visit Weekend Reflections, Shadow Shot Sunday, Scenic Sunday, SOOC (straight out of the camera), Window Views and Blue Monday if you’ve a yen for more variations on a theme, or the home blog of some great photo memes. Blush rose

I just love the way this rose looks. So tenderly colored, so perfect.

Pink Saturday has lots more pink things, and SOOC has more straight-out-of-the-camera photos. Today’s Flowers has blooms from around the world. Do check it out!

I’m trying out something new, for me: Twitter. Hey, better late than never. You can follow me @SaraLChapman, and I’ll be letting the world and my Twitter followers know about new posts here as they arise from my magic computer.

White mum

Chrysanthemums are some of my favorite flowers. My mother grew lots of perennial mums where I grew up in Queens, New York City, and I loved the spicy smell of them. This one is from a florist, but it still smells like the backyard ones she grew.

Visit Macro Flowers Saturday for more floral close ups. And if there’s only one photo here, do click on Sara’s Fave Photos for the full blog.

Pink pansies

Had a half hour to kill so I went to a local nursery, just to browse around. Time well spent, believe me. I’ll show the amazing pumpkins and gourds they displayed in another post. Here are just some perfect pink pansies in the afternoon light.

Visit Pink Saturday for more pretty pinkness, and Macro Flowers Saturday, too. Some shadows qualify it for Shadow Shot Sunday, and it’s also SOOC or straight out of the camera.

If you only see the one photo below, do click on Sara’s Fave Photos for access to the whole shebang.

I’m going to be away for a few days, so look for some new stuff when I get back on Wednesday. Ta-ta!

Fall bouquet

From a couple of weeks ago, a bouquet of dahlias and late zinnias at the Pike Place Market. My plan is to go every month throughout the year to see what flowers they have, as they may only sell local flowers that they grow themselves. I know that soon it will be the dried arrangements, but for now there are still fresh blooms.

Visit Ruby Tuesday to see more photos with great reds, and Color Carnival for more brilliant colors.

Japanese anemone

These simple flowers are welcome in the late summer and fall garden, in the Seattle climate, anyway. They are seen in lavender or white and bloom in shade or sun, and dry seems to be OK. And they come back! I love easy perennials, don’t you? And do you notice the bee working in the background?

Visit Shadow Shot Sunday for more fascinating kinds of shadows, Today’s Flowers for flowers around the world, and Macro Flowers for more flower close ups. Macro Monday and Mellow Yellow Monday rule, too. Let’s try a new meme: Flowers on Saturday!

Boat wake

It was only last month that we went crabbing in our friends’ 28-foot boat in the waters off Anacortes, Washington, but it does seem farther back than that. Summer’s weather was so gray and dismal that the rare blue skies that day were a total thrill. This photo reminds me of the clear air and great watery smell up there. Vrooom!

Visit Watery Wednesday and Outdoor Wednesday, plus Scenic Sunday, Skywatch Friday and Blue Monday, if you’d like to see more neat photos on those themes. There’s also SOOC Sunday for straight-out-of-the-camera shots like this one.

As long as you’re here, you might as well try a tag like “water” to see more of my own photos with water in them. You can always return to the latest post here by clicking on Sara’s Fave Photos.

Even though there are several photos I posted this week that I really like, I think the sense of motion and distance in this one makes it my fave for the week. Plus the sunshine and water, of course—so I’m tagging it my Best Post of the Week.

Late garden bouquet

The weather in Seattle was so cool for most of the summer that the cosmos didn’t get going until the end of September, and they are supposed to be summer annuals! The good part is that those flowers, so late in starting, are now blooming like crazy, so my backyard border (shown from my bedroom window) is filled with huge bushes of cosmos, taller than I am. The roses are few but company coming called for a bouquet.

Visit Ruby Tuesday for more ruby redness gracing all kinds of photos. Color Carnival has more bright colors. Scenic Sunday as always shows us scenery around the world. Windows and Doors has lots of ’em, creatively seen. And SOOC has more straight-out-of-the-camera shots. A new meme, Monthly Garden Bouquet, features photos of blooms from your garden.

Spathiphyllum or peace lily

I used to grow a Spathiphyllum plant like this in the old days when I had lots of houseplants. It actually flowered for me, which is remarkable. The leaves are a nice, dark green and it can manage on pretty low light and some neglect. This lovely specimen, recently seen in the Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle, was multi-flowering.
