Godetia, easy annual that reseeds
I love godetia. They grow from seeds easily, and then volunteers pop up next year, never invasive, doesn’t need staking, even great cut flowers in a bouquet. I forgive it its lack of scent. Nothing is perfect, but these are a nine out of ten, for me. Okay, maybe only eight, because flower fragrance is so important, after all.
Beautiful!!!!
Lovely photo! I also enjoy growing Godetia in my garden. The ones I’ve always grown have been rather wild and spread out in the container or bed I’ve planted them in.
Today I saw some in the middle of Jasper, Alberta and I almost didn’t recognize them because they were growing in lovely little “clumps”. Upon looking closer, I realized they were individual, compact plants that were growing all neat and clean beside each other and not getting all crazy and branching out all over. Do you know how to keep them growing in nice little “round” plants?
I have grown the “Dwarf” varieties and have never seen this result.
I bought a pack of seeds several years ago so have no idea what kind this is. And some become quite bushy and beautiful, but some are sort of scrawny and not much. But since they do it by themselves and look the same (varying shades of red and pink) I just enjoy them. I have an idea that decent soil and enough water encourages the bushier growth. Maybe the ones you saw were a different variety?
