Flowers For Today: Begonias
I took this photo of begonias out back in my last garden in August 07. They are good plants, never needing their faded flowers picked off (deadheading), and blooming their heads off for months. This one even made it over our Seattle winter a couple of years, but it was heavily mulched, it’s true. I’ll have to plant some here in a shady spot.
For more fascinating flowers around the world, click HERE.
I’m going on a trip to Arizona today for a conference so I won’t be near my computer for a few days. If anyone leaves a comment, be sure I will read it and visit your site when I return. I plan to sneak away at least a little bit and take photos, of course!

Your begonias are beautiful, so unlike the ones I see in the greenhouses around here, where they get kind of greasy and dirty looking. This is elegant, to be sure.
(PS Thanks for stopping by. I teach in Waterbury, Connecticut, where the kids are so lazy the only excuse they have for not working is to accuse the teacher of bigotry. They play the card all the time.)

Hi Sara, a lovely choice for TF. A soft beautiful colour on a healthy looking plant. Begonias are growing well here in the subtropics. They come in many colours, sizes and leaf forms. The bedding type you have featured so beautifully, is always a favourite.

The colours are so gorgeous. Love how they are pale and soft in the centre of the flower and then become more strong and vivid! Great shot!

Begonias do well in cooler climes but do not like acid soils so unfortunately I no longer can enjoy them in my own garden except in pots.
Yours cheered me up no end since they looked so healthy and were so very well photographed.

We used to play with those flowers in my grandmother’s garden during childhood days and we don’t what’s the name of the flower. Now I learned that it is called Begonia. Though I heard Begonia a lot of times, I don’t know what it looks like. Thanks to Today’s Flowers that I am learning a lot.
Your Begonias are really beautiful!

I like begonias too but they do not like my garden conditions here. Perhaps I’ll try some in containers next year! Sorry I am late posting … we have been away in the city and returned to a power outage and snow! The power is back and so I can now blog!

This photo reminds me of the begonias I used to grow when I lived in a less wet, foggy climate. Thanks for the memories.

Oh boy, begonias… My father was quite a gardener and when I was a kid we used to go out to a nursery in Carmel Valley where he would pick out a few to bring home… They really are quite showy, aren’t they…
