Wildflowers near a river
Continuing a theme, here is the Sol Duc (pronounced Sole Duck) River in the background swishing over the rocks. The Sol Duc is within the Olympic National Park in Washington State, in the Pacific Northwest.
There’s an unknown wildflower in front. Anyone recognize it? [later: Clairz says it’s fireweed! Yay, Clairz!]
Check out Scenic Sunday and SOOC (straight-out-of-the-camera shots). Before you do, browse around here a bit. What appeals today?

Looks beautiful.
No clue about the name.
What a lovely photo, and so nostalgic for me. I once went on a guided Audubon walk up by the Quinault Lodge on the Olympic Peninsula, and learned things about the birds and vegetation there that I have never forgotten, although that was over thirty years ago.
I’m going to guess that the plant is fireweed. I even remember its Latin name, Epilobium angustifolium, and all from that one morning spent in the woods with an expert! (Too bad I can’t remember what I came into this room for, LOL).
Yes! I think that’s it. Fireweed! I know it’s a common one, and bless google images for letting me know you were right. Thanks!
I hear you on the memory thing. Funny how that works, isn’t it?
Thanks for helping me out,
Sara
