Red bromeliad
Bromeliads are fun. They are pretty like flowers but the center part is only colored leaves (called bracts, I believe). This kind likes to get watered from above and collect water in the center. My mother used to grow different kinds in Florida where they can grow outdoors, and she had quite a collection. This one is in the Volunteer Park Conservatory here in Seattle, where they certainly cannot grow outdoors, or at least not in January.

thanks for the trivia. thought it was a flower, what with the vibrant fuchsia color
So lovely, they are quite commonly found here in Asia.
I love this photo! So beautiful!
You caught my attention, Sara! Nice shot. My first thought: I had no idea these were in WA, but they do like regular rain… Reading the caption: you’re right, not warm enough. Recently getting into Bromeliads. There is an amazing variety (see Tropiflora.com in Sarasota).
I just love bromeliads, they are such a contrast in color.

That’s gorgeous!
My Ruby Tuesday, hope you can come and see. Thanks in advance!
SEEKERS OF REDS
The seekers of rubies and poppies and reds
Won’t spend a spare second asleep in their beds,
Afraid that they’ll miss a rubicund sight
Or something that’s scarlet, flaming at night.
