Two pink cosmos

There’s nothing like natural light, is there? These cosmos from my garden were catching just a bit of sun in their vase on the windowsill. This image, like most of the ones I show here, is straight out of the camera. When the light is right, most of the photo is just right there for you. Keep your eyes open and be quick!

The light and shadows in this one float my boat so I’m calling this my Best Post of the Week.

Tiny sailboat and ferry

Seattle sits on Puget Sound and the sun sets over the water, behind various islands in the distance, and the western view can be so lovely, even in the typical gray skies we usually deal with in these parts.

Visit Skywatch Friday, Watery Wednesday, Outdoor Wednesday, Pink Saturday, Scenic Sunday and Weekend Reflections  for interesting photos around the blogosphere. Do click on Sara’s Fave Photos above if you see only one photo below and it will bring up a nice dozen or so for your viewing pleasure.

Snoqualmie Falls

I can’t believe I’ve lived in the Seattle area for eight years now and have never visited Snoqualmie Falls until now. It’s much closer than I had any idea of, and even though you can’t walk right up to the falls for another year or so until they finish the improvements, it’s still a fabulous view and well worth the trip.

Visit Watery Wednesday, Outdoor WednesdayScenic Sunday, and SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera) for more photo fun. Browse around here first, why don’t you? Remember, if there is only one photo below, click on Sara’s Fave Photos for the others. Thank you for visiting!

Tiny red fuchsias

That Garden Club District flower show not too long ago was so much fun. I love seeing what other gardeners can grow that do well around here. I believe this is a hardy fuchsia, which means that the top part may die back in the winter, but the plant will survive. They bloom late, but so welcome in the garden.

Peace rose in the garden

Just this afternoon I went out to the rosebed and took this lush image. They are just so lovely to me. I don’t get tired of them and I hope you don’t either.

Visit Today’s Flowers, Color Carnival, Mellow Yellow Monday, Pink Saturday, Macro Flowers Saturday, Macro Monday, Shadow Shot Sunday and Macro Friday.  You’ll be glad you did. Dusk at the Conservatory

We’ve been having meetings at the Volunteer Park Conservatory (check out their brand-new website!) to help get the much-needed completion of the restoration funded. An extra benefit is going there after hours and catching the late afternoon light. There’s a wonderful video they’ve produced and you might notice that the plantings in it show it was taken just recently. Don’t you just love sunflowers?

Sorry for the late notice, but I will be at the Conservatory’s Plant Sale on Saturday, September 17, 10-3pm, signing copies of my new book, Flowers of Volunteer Park Conservatory: Blooming Month by Month. Directions on the Conservatory’s new website above. The plant sales there are always fabulous and the book is pretty neat, too! And the special launch pricing for my new book on this website will end Thursday, September 15, so if you were thinking about getting one for yourself and maybe one for a gift, now’s the time.

Forest shadows

While it’s still blissfully warm in Seattle, with one more day or so before regular temperatures and cloud cover returns, here’s a view that greeted us on our camping trip a couple of weeks ago. Doesn’t that just make you want to take a deep breath? And the new header photo of the boy in Wildcat Lake is just a picture of a warm day, for me.

Pink zinnia macro

There was another one of those garden club district meetings on Wednesday. About 70 people got together for some info, a nice lunch, and a flower show. And I sold books, which was the first time I’ve done that. They bought quite a few, and I was so happy that they liked the book so much. By the way, that special launch pricing on my new book ends pretty soon, so if you are thinking of getting one (or two or three), now’s a good time. It’s called Flowers of Volunteer Park Conservatory, and perhaps you might “like” the book’s page on facebook?

Do check out Pink Saturday, Macro Flowers Saturday, Macro Monday, Macro Friday, Today’s Flowers, Color Carnival, Mellow Yellow Monday and SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera) after you’ve browsed around here first. Lots to see! Click on Sara’s Fave Photos to get to the newest post here.

Totem pole against the sky

This being the Pacific Northwest, it’s not so totally surprising to find a big totem pole at someone’s house, overlooking Puget Sound. But still pretty darn unusual. I like it very much, especially on a day like this one.

Colorful kayaks

Some scenes just beg for their picture to be taken. While all the world loves to photograph a hot air balloon, or, even better, a bunch of them at a balloon event—since that’s an extremely early-in-the-morning sort of deal, it’s not for me. But kayaks! Just sitting there, floating on the water of Puget Sound, waiting to be rented. Or photographed. I obliged. And I’m calling this my Best Post of the Week.
