Our recent camping trip at Deception Pass State Park at Bowman Bay was blessed with sunny weather. We have had about six weeks solid of sunny weather in August and September in Seattle and it has been fabulous. The most sunshine in the nine years that I have been in the area, and I can’t tell you how much appreciated. In any case, here is a look towards the end of the pier at Bowman Bay. Shall we take a stroll?

On our camping vacation to Deception Pass State Park in Washington, we stayed in the Bowman Bay area and hiked to Rosario Beach. What fun! The coast Salish native peoples carved large images, not totem poles, and this image of the legend of Maiden of Deception Pass was made for the Samish people by Fidalgo Island artist Tracy Powell in 1983. It is perhaps 20 feet tall! You can see the waters of the Pacific Ocean in the background.

A few weeks ago I was at a charity event at the Dumas Bay Center in Federal Way, Washington. It’s right at the water, of course, and the broad lawn is perfect for outdoor celebrations. Hope you enjoy view.

This old fort on Whidbey Island in Washington used to watch for Japanese invasion in World War II. You can still see the bunkers and where the big guns were, just in case. Now it’s used for parasailing and the occasional tourist. Wonderful space that made me happy.

The view from the bridge at Deception Pass on Whidbey Island in Washington is beautiful, and not just the far distances. Catch the shades of green on this moss at the rocks just north of the bridge!

Sunday was Victorian Day, the special 100-year birthday party for one of my top fave places on the planet, the Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle. The weather was perfect, and many, many people worked hard to make such a fun and creative event. The period costumes were fabulous! I love the pose of the woman and I’m calling it my Best Post of the Week.

This photo gives me such a feeling of peace. I love the quiet at the water’s edge. Bowman Bay is part of Deception Pass State Park, in western Washington. That is Puget Sound you are looking at. May all your days end this peacefully.

The pretty teapot two posts below needs some context. The scene and day was so lovely, I thought I’d show you the deck and tables all set out. Let’s have a tea party!

On our short little getaway last week, a little visit to Coupeville on Whidbey Island, Washington, was just the thing. Victorian houses with pretty gardens, adorable shops, and scenic boats and sky, not to mention perfect temperatures, made for much happiness. Isn’t this sky just great?

This is a new flower for me. I was admiring a huge shrub in a beautiful garden in Coupeville, WA, when the owner came out and chatted with us. To me, this lavatera looks like it is related to hollyhock. I wish I had the space to grow this, as it looked about 6 feet (2 meters) tall and wide, and she said it was four years old, and you cut it to the ground each winter. What a stunner!
