Island shadow

That crabbing expedition out from Anacortes, WA last week yielded some yummy crabs and some neat photos, too. Here’s another island, casting its shadow upon the water.

Do visit Shadow Shot Sunday for more interesting shadows of all kinds, Scenic Sunday for scenery and Weekend Reflections, too. And before you go, maybe the category of Waterscape has some neat photos you’ve never seen. Click on Sara’s Fave Photos for the latest post here.

Gazebo

Our recent visit to Anacortes, WA to go crabbing with friends was topped off by a lovely late-day stroll from the Cap Sante marina to a nearby gazebo. There’s no way it shows up at this resolution, but there’s actually a line of birds flying low in the sky near the gazebo. I love the light at this time of day. It’s brief, but everything looks like it is dipped in gold.

Visit Scenic Sunday for other scenic shots. And you might try the “scenic” tag while you are here, first. If you’ve arrived from a link or search engine, be sure to click on Sara’s Fave Photos above for the latest post.

I like this photo very, very much. I might frame it. Anyway, I’ve tagged it Best Post of the Week.

Harbor seals

These are so pretty, aren’t they? I didn’t have a strong zoom lens and you can’t get too close without scaring them off the rocks, our boat captain (hi Chuck!) told us, so here’s a group portrait of harbor seals for you, taken on the waters off Anacortes, WA.

Watery Wednesday has amazing water photos of all sorts, Outdoor Wednesday has outdoor shots and Camera Critters, well, you get the idea. Also, Scenic Sunday and Weekend Reflections are well worth visiting.

Browse around here in a new search, tag or category. Water, perhaps? And you can always return to the latest post by clicking on Sara’s Fave Photos above.

Island near Anacortes, WA

I had such a wonderful day today. Friends with a boat took us crabbing out from Anacortes, Washington, which is a couple of hours north of Seattle on Puget Sound, and the weather even turned fine. Scenic and delicious—my kind of day.

Visit Skywatch Friday for more skies seen round the world, Blue Monday, Scenic Sunday and Weekend Reflections, too. SOOC has more straight-out-of-the-camera shots.

I’ve tagged this post Best Post of the Week because it really floats my boat (almost literally!). And don’t forget to feed the fish at the bottom of the page.

Leafy road

This road that I saw on a neighborhood walk is an invitation to me. What’s down there? I want to explore, but don’t think the owners would appreciate my strolling into their space. But my curiosity sure is piqued. What do you imagine is there?

Scenic Sunday has more interesting and beautiful outdoor photos, and SOOC has more straight out of the camera shots. Go check it out.

Lake Burien

This adorable little lake looked almost European in the late-day light the other evening. Lake Burien is just a few acres, south of Seattle, much beloved by the homeowners around it and invited visitors like myself.

Visit Watery Wednesday for more water photos of all kinds, and Outdoor Wednesday is fun also. Scenic Sunday and SOOC or Straight Out of the Camera are both very worth a visit, too.

You might try the “scenic” tag while you are here, or perhaps “water”? You can always return to the full blog by clicking on Sara’s Fave Photos above.

Sunset at Sculpture Park in Seattle

There was a dance thing at Sculpture Park in Seattle tonight, part of the Dancing til Dusk series the city has put on this summer. If you’d like to see a video of a great waltz demo, you can see it here: Waltz Demo. But the setting overshadowed even the great dancing for awhile, as the sunset turned into one of those red fire ones. This is straight out of the camera, handheld, and no special settings or cropping, either. I’m calling it my Best Post of the Week.

Visit Skywatch Friday for more skies seen round the world, and Scenic Sunday rocks. Color Carnival and Weekend Reflections are great, too.

Longboarder on Dungeness Bay

On a recent morning, this woman was calmly paddling her board across the shallow waters out towards the deeper waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, or all the way to Canada for all I know. I love the look of still water, and reflections are a bonus.

Visit Watery Wednesday, Blue Monday, Outdoor Wednesday, Scenic Sunday and Weekend Reflections for more interesting photos with a theme.

While you are here, you might as well explore a bit. Click on a new tag. Blue, perhaps? And if you’ve arrived via a link, be sure to click on Sara’s Fave Photos to see the entire blog. And check out my new book, Flowers of Volunteer Park Conservatory, if you have a moment, for more beautiful photography.

Dahlia with red stripes

There might be a special name for this kind of marking on flower petals, but I don’t know it. If you do, please clue me in. [later: Striated! Thank you!] They aren’t really stripes; more of spots and stripes mixed together. Anyway, I just love the way it looks. I took this in Seattle’s Volunteer Park dahlia garden that I just discovered this week, maintained by the Puget Sound Dahlia Association. Enjoy!

Visit Ruby Tuesday for more ravishing photo redness and SOOC for more straight-out-of-camera shots.

If you got here by clicking on a link, it might not be the latest post—Sara’s Fave Photos above will take you there. Be sure to try a tag or search for “dahlia” and see what you get!

Seattle dahlia garden

I discovered a gem of a dahila garden in Seattle, in Volunteer Park. If you are leaving the Conservatory at the north end, it is in the big field in front of you to your left. There appear to be maybe a couple of hundred different dahlias blooming, all staked and named and perfectly groomed. I was in heaven. The sign says it is maintained by the Puget Sound Dahlia Association and I say Thank You to them.

Here’s a pretty pink one for Pink Saturday. Also for Macro Flowers Saturday. And visit Color Carnival, too!

While you are here, try clicking on the Dahlia tag for more lovely blooms. And if you’ve arrived by the permalink, you can always get to the latest post and the full blog by clicking on Sara’s Fave Photos, above. Thanks for visiting!
