Berry harvest

Well, the birds got all the cherries, but we are having better luck with the berries.

Tropicana rose

This year the Tropicana rose and other roses in my front yard are much happier than last year. I’ve been using Dr. Earth fertilizer and it seems to make a huge difference. NOTE: I might be in error on the name. I think this is Fragrant Cloud. Tropicana has more pink and yellow.

Flower border

The border of flowers in our backyard is doing its thing. It looks best in late light instead of today’s midday sunshine, but this is pretty nice too, no?

Garden lettuce

Lettuce doesn’t like too much hot weather, which will make it bolt (center part gets taller pretty quickly to set seed). If it bolts it becomes bitter and not very good to eat. If you harvest it as soon as you see it’s beginning to bolt, it will still be delicious. Try a leaf to see. If you have a lot of lettuce plants and want to extend your harvest time, it will last for weeks in the fridge IF you pull it out roots and all, shake and rinse off the dirt with a hose, shake off extra water, and put it in a plastic bag closed with a twist tie. You can eat fresh salads for weeks.

Garden lavender

Lavender grows very well in my yard. It even yields occasional volunteer plants!

Rainy rose

We had drizzle the last few days. The new plants got a break, the established ones are still thirsty, but the roses became bejewelled. NOTE: I am going off line for a couple of weeks. See you all when I get back. Check back early June for more pretty pictures!

Foxglove macro

The foxglove (digitalis) is blooming well this year. A little fertilizer doesn’t hurt, either.

Out in the garden today, the sun came out. Our part of the yard goes to just after the vegetable beds on the right.

Double lilac

I have a few lilacs and this is my favorite one. They are almost done now but here is a memory.
