Clouds from above

Air travel seems very magical to me. As much as I understand how the air thins out over the curved top of the wing and creates lift, or think I understand it, the fact of a huge metal structure flying through the air is something to wonder at, no matter how many times I have flown. And the opportunity to see our earth from above the clouds is one of my favorite experiences. This photo was taken somewhere over the midwest, in late March. I bet it’s greening up now!

Skywatch Friday has many other sky photos from around the planet. Visit Shadow Shot Sunday 2, Outdoor Wednesday, and Scenic Sunday if you have a minute or two. Be sure to click on Sara’s Fave Photos Blog above to see the latest post here if you have arrived via a link. Thanks for visiting!

Leaves in sunshine

I believe these are crocosmia leaves that I came across in the Highline Botanical Garden the other day. I have some in my own garden and they look just like this in the sunshine. They flower (spray of tiny red/orange flowers on a stem) only in late summer and spread so well they might be called invasive, but look at those neat patterns!

Sunset over Puget Sound

We went to an event at Pike Place Market yesterday on my birthday, and forget all about the artisanal food and wine going on—there was a scenic sunset moment that got all my attention. With a seagull!

Flowering white tree

I took this photo in Connecticut when I was there not too long ago. I am sure it is not a cherry tree, but I don’t know what kind of tree it is. Anyone know? Perhaps an ornamental pear, or something like that? These fine old trees really are amazing in the northeastern U.S. landscape, with everything so totally gray in the winter and then these bursts of blossoms. Yay, Spring!

Spring scene of tree near pond

This spring scene of a tree near a pond was taken on my recent trip to Connecticut. Don’t you just love the pattern of shadows? The reflection of the spring flowers on the water surface isn’t too shabby, either. What a lovely day that was. I am so glad I always have my camera with me! Speaking of which, don’t forget to download the “7 Secrets to Better Flower Photos” at the right. You don’t need more than a pocket camera to take really nice pictures, is how I feel about it.

Forsythia hedge in Connecticut

Visiting the New York area last week, I got to travel a bit around the Greenwich, CT area. With a spring landscape that can’t be beat, bursting into bloom from the warm weather they’d been having, I was in photo heaven when I saw this forsythia hedge just exploding in front of me. The sun peeked out and snap! I got it. Lucky me!

Blooming white tree

When I was in New York last week, everything was in bloom, at least the early spring flowers and trees. And no wonder, with a solid two weeks of 75 degree F weather (which ended before I got there, sadly). There were a lot of trees with white flowers blooming, and the bark was rough so I knew they weren’t cherry trees. But what they were, I do not know. Any ideas?

Clouds from above

Flying to New York City last week I got to see the late rays of the sun from such an unusual angle. I always get a window seat, as you never know what you might see. Flying east meant the light dimmed very quickly, but this view of the deep blue sky and the delicate textures of the top of the clouds really impressed me.

Burien rainbow

Even a plain old rainbow is worth looking at. March is definitely rainbow month around here. Hope you enjoy this one.

It’s a stretch to say this qualifies for Watery Wednesday, but all that water vapor has to be in the air, right? No water, no rainbow. Moss in the Pacific Northwest

They say if you stand still long enough in the Pacific Northwest, moss will grow on your nose. I don’t know about that, but the stuff on trees and in lawns is pretty spectacular. Green, green, green! Naturally, the rainiest months (September through June) are the mossiest. I’m calling it my my Best Post of the Week.

You might want to browse some of the meme entries in Scenic Sunday, Outdoor Wednesday, Watery Wednesday (not much visible water here, but so moist!) and Wordless Wednesday.
