Fall day in the Aboretum

Here are a few photos from our walk yesterday. The third photo’s tree looked like some kind of exotic cherry, but I don’t know what it is. The middle is japanese maple leaves.

A magical sky

I took this photo when I lived in Northern California, and I still like it. Such a tender sky. Click HERE for more photos of skies around the world.

Shadows for Sunday

The late-day sun is a blessed thing for those with a camera in their hot little hands, itching for something lovely to capture. Another Arizona scene for your pleasure. For other fascinating shadow views, click HERE.

Ruby Tuesday campfire

We didn’t go camping this summer, but I was thinking about it and wish we could. Here is a photo from last year’s campsite, not too far from Mt. Ranier. I look at it and it makes me hear the quiet and smell the night air.

Marin Fog for Skywatch Friday

This is a photo I took when back in California a year or so ago. Click HERE for more Skywatch Friday photos. I just love the way the clouds and strip of fog looks, plus it’s at my favorite time of day, the dusky twilight. Even though the focus is not as sharp as it could be, it is truly one of my fave photos.

Flowers for today

I was at a flower show from the district’s garden clubs. I’d like to know which of the three photos below you like best. The first one was the display with their ribbons lit from a convenient skylight. The second shows the hydrangeas in their varied colors. And the third is one dahlia, I believe the variety is Firecracker. It won a blue ribbon, too. Which photo appeals the most to you?

Skywatch Friday Sunrise

This is something different. My sister Jo in Camano Island, north of Seattle, was up at a very unaccustomed early hour and was rewarded by this sunrise as seen from her deck. I couldn’t resist posting the series she took here for Skywatch Friday. For more Skywatch Friday photos, click HERE.

Knitted Doughnuts and a Tree Frog

I have been posting lots of flowers, and they truly thrill me, but here is something different. I was walking in Old Burien and saw a The Yarn Stash (http://www.burienyarnstash.com/), a knitting shop with a storefront display of . . . knitted food. Or maybe crocheted. I loved it. Here are the doughnuts . . .

. . . as well as knitted angora marshmallows and the knitted food pyramid (high fiber!), all by Christine Moulton. Too funny!

And not to neglect our general garden theme, a teensy treefrog on the leaves of our super dwarf peach tree in Des Moines. You can just see the colorful peach peeking through the leaves on the lower right.

Faves from last year

darrington-mountain-copyr.jpg

I haven’t been taking enough pictures recently to have ones worthy of sharing, so I thought I’d look at last year on this date and see what I found. Voila! Some very nice ones. The first was taken at the Darrington Bluegrass festival, in a sunny moment. I do not know the name of the beautiful mountain.

And here are some daylilies that I grew in the Des Moines house. They are only in their third year here in the ground. Our new house in Normandy park will definitely have some of these, after the garden gets going.
