This rose is called Double Delight. The more sun it gets, the darker the red edges. I read that the unusual coloration was first seen as a flaw by the breeder. Not only is the bush healthy and vigorous, its scent is sweet, spicy, strong, and completely magnificent. This was taken in the rose garden in our other house, last June. I will just have to plant more roses.

When thinking shadows, it’s hard not to think of my visit to Arizona near Sedona early last year. I had just gotten a digital camera and pretty much went crazy, taking jillions of photos. Last year I went to Burning Man, an extreme arts festival, you might say, on the playa in Black Rock, Nevada. It was way too hot, too huge and too difficult to do anything but lie there and pant, but at least I took photos. Here’s a rainbow, just for Skywatch Friday. There are still some flowers blooming, and this one shows our Seattle specialty, rain. It doesn’t rain all that much, but it can get a bit gray. Flowers like this cheer me up, though. Click HERE for more ideas about the color red.

Walking the other day with my visiting daughter, I found these low flowers perhaps 6 or 8 inches tall, with  no leaves. It was a typical Seattle fall day with a bit of rain still on the petals. I think they are called Fall Crocus, but I may certainly be wrong. Anyone know the real name?

Who can resist the lure of the coast? I read that 75% of the world’s population lives within 50 miles of an ocean coast. An amazing statistic, if true. I love to live near water, and here in Seattle that’s so easy. The two scenes of Puget Sound below were taken recently from the Normandy Park cove beach.
