We were at a friend’s house on Lake Washington in Seattle, enjoying the perfect weather (finally!) when my favorite super noisemakers roared by. What a kick!

On Wednesday the weather was heaven and we were camping at Lake Cushman, WA. Here is what it looked like in the evening, wading at the shore.

The great thing about Skywatch Friday is the amount of looking up we all do now. This scene was from a hardware store parking lot. You can see showers falling a few miles away, but all was balmy and beautiful overhead.

Last week we had such fabulous weather. I was in Seattle driving downtown and during stopped traffic, out my open car window, shot this photo. It’s like two buildings and skies in one!

Everyone loves to grow tomatoes but not everyone knows how to make sure there are lots of tomatoes on the vines. With bees experiencing serious decline for unknown reasons (although I seem to see more this year than last year in my own garden), pollination can be a problem.

The solution? You! Assisted flower sex is the answer, and you get tomatoes for your trouble. Unless you are a farmer with acres of tomatoes, for a few backyard plants you can make a big difference in yield by going around your plants with a child’s little paintbrush, or even a cotton swab, and brushing each little yellow flower in turn. Do this every few days to catch as many flowers as possible, and you will be amazed at the results. And it’s fun!

Driving near Seatac (Seattle-Tacoma, in case you wondered) Airport recently, the weather was changing quite rapidly, and I thought you’d like to see this dramatic sky for Skywatch Friday. After our anniversary dinner the other day, we took a little stroll along the pier, but it was too windy to stay long. You can see the Puget Sound water surface is not that smooth, but the rays of the sunset was welcome with its brilliant color enlivening the gray skies and dark water. This mostly building photo gets included as a Skywatch post because the building seems to looks like part of the sky to me. I took this from the car on the upper West Side; I think we were on the Henry Hudson Parkway. If anyone knows what this building is, please let us know. We have a road in Seattle, the Viaduct, that is not very safe in case of a big earthquake, so they are probably going to tear it down and build a tunnel, but oh, the views from that marvellous road going north into town. I considered cropping this so you could see the birds on the lamppost on the left side of the road, and eliminating the road altogether, but I decided to leave it as taken. It’s a great road.
