Fruit display

The Tuesday Market in San Miguel was huge and colorful. I didn’t dare eat the peeled fruit, but it was so beautiful.

Three peaches

This small painting, Three Peaches on a Plate by Henri Fantin-Latour, was painted in 1868, almost 150 years ago. I saw it at the Seattle Art Museum Impressionism show. I think it was my favorite painting there.

Apple tart

This was my first try of a recipe for Apple Tart in the wonderful book The Apprentice, or at least the filling is. I used a Fred Meyer frozen pie crust, and yellow apples from my tree. It was GREAT even if I baked it a bit too long. Filling recipe: Core and cut about 4 golden delicious apples (2 lbs.) into 1.5″ pieces. Arrange like spokes in a wheel on pie dough. Sprinkle with 3 tablespoons of sugar and 2 tablespoons of cold unsalted butter, in pieces. Bake at 425 for one hour or until golden. (This was too long or too hot, but that’s an easy fix.) The flavor and texture was superb. It was so quick and easy, too!

Red grapes harvest

Our red table-grape vine has been in the ground two or three years now. This year, with the warm weather, the vine has earned its keep. Side note: These grapes appear to be Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2015, Marsala.

Green grapes

A friend’s garden is loaded with grapes. These green ones are not quite ripe, but still so pretty.

Leek flowers

These tall leek blossoms dominate my vegetable garden this time of year. I have no idea why some are white and some are lavender or purple. Bees love them!

Dark cherries macro

Dark red cherries of some kind on my backyard 5-graft tree, right before I picked them. I lost the tags, so don’t know the exact name. But they are delicious! I really love this image and I am calling it my weekly Saturday Top Shot.
