Blue hydrangea macro

I love this kind of hydrangea and they sure reward a close look. Those teensy white centers!

Dill umbel

Dill is very happy in my garden and reseeds so well that I see why it is called dill weed. But it is beautiful and fragrant, and I love to cook with it, so at least some stays. Here is a flower about the size of my hand, not quite in bloom. Note: the word umbel comes from the word umbrella!

Blue hydrangeas

The hydrangeas are beginning. I love that they bloom in the shade. It’s easier to keep them watered properly in shade, anyway. Remember, the “hydra” in their name means they love/need water!

Pink dogwood tree

Today I went someplace new, the South Seattle College Arboretum, and the weather was perfection. Here is what their heavenly pink dogwood tree looked like, straight out of the camera. I think I’d like to see this as a fabric print, somehow.

Purple campanula

These bell-shaped campanula flowers have come back strongly this year. They are a bit over knee height, so they really make a nice show in the garden.

First rose

This red rose bud (probably ‘Don Juan”) is my first rose of the season. This particular rosebush is grown from a cutting I took at our last house five years ago, and THAT rosebush was from a cutting that a friend rooted for me when I still lived in California. It’s intensely fragrant. Happy rose season to all my friends in the Northern Hemisphere!

Field of red poppies

My sister was in the south of France recently and took this photo of the blood-red poppies.

Knitted bike rack

We have some artistic knitters in Burien, Washington. This yarn-covered bike rack (and more, not shown) is what some creative person or persons did to decorate the bike rack at the Burien Community Center recently. Stuff like this really floats my boat.

Burien clock

The little city of Burien, Washington, has a very sculptural clock. Here it is as it looked on Art Walk the other evening, in extremely fine weather. See the crescent moon in the sky, adding to the ambiance?

More sculpture than clock, Burien is lucky to have this special timepiece.
