Colorful boat hulls

When I went to the East coast in March, I was lucky enough to take some scenic drives, especially in Connecticut. You can’t go wrong with boats stacked on the beach, waiting for the good weather to come again. Especially with colors like these! Come to think of it, this would make a neat jigsaw puzzle, wouldn’t it?

You might check out Scenic Sunday, Outdoor Wednesday, Skywatch Friday, A Piece of Heaven, Ruby Tuesday 2, Color Carnival, Mellow Yellow Monday and Shadow Shot Sunday 2. Lots out there worth a browse. But poke around here first, why don’t you, and maybe click on a new tag or category, just for fun.

Mt. Rainier over I5 near Seattle

There’s one brief spot on Interstate 5 driving south from Seattle with a great view of Mt. Rainier, where you have an unobstructed view of The Mountain, as the locals call it. Really, it should be The Volcano, but that’s another post. Yesterday the weather was changing and our beautiful mountain was wearing a hat for us, and even though it’s through the windshield, I thought you’d like to see this scenic vista, cars and all. And a side note: I believe the mountain is maybe 40 miles away as the crow flies. No long lens was used to make it look closer.

Visit Scenic Sunday, Skywatch Friday, Outdoor Wednesday, and A Piece of Heaven, if you have a minute. Thank you for stopping by here, and hope to see you again soon.

Double lilacs

Can’t you almost smell them? Lilac shrubs are very long-lived, I understand, so sometimes there’s a bit of a wait before they will flower, even if conditions are good. I know they can get huge, as I once saw clumps of them in Maine that were the size of small apartment buildings. Here in Seattle the acid soil can be a problem, so a handful of dolomitic lime in the fall and spring has really helped. Finally, the flowers are beginning to look like something this year. They bloom on last year’s growth, so I’ll wait until next year for a bouquet.

Blooming tree with white flowers

Sometimes I just have no idea what a flower is, especially trees. Anyone have an idea? But isn’t it pretty, with the light coming through the petals like that?

Various flower memes worth visiting include Today’s Flowers, Weekend Flowers, Floral Friday, plus there’s  Pink Saturday, Macro Monday, Skywatch Friday and Outdoor Wednesday, just for fun.

If you’re in Seattle, be sure to hit the Volunteer Park Conservatory plant sale tomorrow, Saturday. It’s the best, and I’ll be there, signing books, too.

Ceiling fabric

Not too long ago I was in an interesting living room in Seattle. Besides lots of cushion seating, there was this pattern of fabric on the high ceiling. I loved it.

You might enjoy a visit to  Ruby Tuesday 2 and Mellow Yellow Monday, but browse around here first, why don’t you?

Guest photo: India

My favorite cousin just got back from her first trip to India, and she has shared her favorite photo with us, taken on the steps of the Ganges river. This is what she had to say about it: “The richness of multi-sensory experience was so palpable, I could only be in the present moment, always. This is in Hariwar, at Ma Ganga, washing, dunking, blessing, offering.”

I love this image and I hope you enjoy it also. I think it is remarkable and am calling it my Best Post of the Week.

It’s a good offering for Scenic Sunday, Outdoor WednesdaySOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), Mellow Yellow Monday and Pink Saturday. Please follow this blog on the new widget to the right if you enjoy the photos. And thanks for visiting!

Blooming white tree

When I was in New York last week, everything was in bloom, at least the early spring flowers and trees. And no wonder, with a solid two weeks of 75 degree F weather (which ended before I got there, sadly). There were a lot of trees with white flowers blooming, and the bark was rough so I knew they weren’t cherry trees. But what they were, I do not know. Any ideas?

Clouds from above

Flying to New York City last week I got to see the late rays of the sun from such an unusual angle. I always get a window seat, as you never know what you might see. Flying east meant the light dimmed very quickly, but this view of the deep blue sky and the delicate textures of the top of the clouds really impressed me.

Transparent building

This “transparent” building was decorating my ride home in Seattle the other day. I love how glass looks on buildings at times like this. Something so simple as glass doing something so magical!

Please visit  Skywatch Friday for magnificent sky photos taken around the planet. Also check out Scenic Sunday, Outdoor Wednesday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), A Piece of Heaven, Weekend Reflections, and Shadow Shot Sunday 2.

I will be away for a week or so and have scheduled some blog posts for while I am gone. I hope you enjoy them and look forward to sharing some new photos with you from the New York City area when I return.

Pond at Highline Botanical Garden

Browsing through the archives for a water photo for Watery Wednesday, I found this photo of the pond at Highline Botanical Garden (north of SeaTac Airport) taken exactly two years ago. We had sun like this today but it was super cold out, with actual snow decorating the lawn this morning. I was so happy that I had this fresh-looking scene to share with you today.
