Dusty is one of those kitties who loves everyone. Doesn’t matter if you love cats or not, smell of dogs or not, feed her or not, she is your friend. “Pet me!” she says. In our last house we had a deck with weathered wood, and I swear sometimes it was hard to see her when she lounged on it. She’s still a bit camouflaged here on our patio but makes herself known quite well.

Even though it can get quite dark in northern and cloudy Seattle in the fall and winter, when the sun does come in a south-facing window it’s glorious, low-angled light. This was taken in my living room, just the other day. Can you tell it’s my absolute fave place to sit?

This huge old cedar tree is what I first loved about this house. It’s actually hard to take a good photo of a tree, especially such a big one. This photo is hot out of the camera, as the weather cleared up nicely this afternoon and I just shot it.

I know it’s a little late, but had to share our neighbors’ Halloween display for Ruby Tuesday (go there for more ruby redness). There actually were even more spiders spread around their front yard. I was lucky enough to be invited to tea at the home of a talented tea-maker, complete with little triangle sandwiches with the crust cut off. The weather was as superb as it gets, and here is a little slice of that heaven, with shadows. For more creative shadows seen in the most interesting places, visit Shadow Shot Sunday.

This was taken in March at the other house, and the light in it seems so bright and clear on this dim January day today. But I read the sun rises at 7:44 and sets at 5:00 tomorrow, so we’re up to over nine hours of daylight, up from a mere 8 at solstice. The days do lengthen, but so slowly.

All these dahlias and other flowers were from my backyard. Not too bad when you figure that we just moved here in May and there were no flowerbeds, just some big shrubs and one huge cedar tree. I’ll get the perfect photo for that someday, but not yet. Today we have two bouquets. We had some people over and of course I had to pick flowers. Please let me know which photo you like best!
