We are certainly missing the annual huge Seattle Northwest Flower & Garden Show/Festival, held every year in early spring but sadly cancelled this year due to COVID-19. We’ve had three days of really nice weather—dry and not too cold. Time to start peas outside! I like to soak them for a few hours before they go in the ground. So exciting to be planting something for spring.

My anthurium plant has given me a lot of pleasure with its long bloom time and pretty shadows. Since I am in Seattle it seems to be thriving in a south window. Its heart-shaped “flower” is actually a bract, or a modified leaf, flaring out from the base of a fleshy spike (spadix) where the tiny real flowers grow.
