Pears on the tree

My gardener friend Sherry (she of the canning jars below) has some beautiful Collette pears on a tree in her garden. This pear is perhaps 3″ tall (8 cm) or so. A ways to go, still.

Stargazer lily macro

I had to look it up, but these stargazer lily parts are stamens, which are the pollen-bearing organ of a flower, consisting of the filament and the anther. I know you had better not get that pollen on your clothes, either—stain city. But inhale that fabulous perfume!

Coneflower

Coneflower, or echinacea, is a beautiful garden perennial and I wish I had some in my garden. This was taken at a local garden tour.

Brugmansia

Brugmansia, or Angels Trumpet, is a magnificent tropical flower that we can grow in the Pacific Northwest if we take them inside in winter. This beauty is blooming at the Volunteer Park Conservatory, currently undergoing the final phase of a huge restoration.

Blue hydrangea macro

I love this kind of hydrangea and they sure reward a close look. Those teensy white centers!

Leek flower bud

Leeks are remarkable plants in the garden. The first photo is the bud enclosed in its casing, with several inches of a green spike on top, looking like an alien hairdo. Below that is the ripe casing falling away, and the buds of the flowers showing themselves. They are at about eye level for me, so a bunch of them make quite an otherworldly show.

Purple glass earrings

You might know that I’ve been making jewelry from the pages of my book (we had one with a scuffed cover and my daughter saw the idea on Pinterest!) and I thought I’d post a few pairs of earrings made this week. These are all of the throatwort flower. For more about the jewelry and upcoming shows click on tabs at top. Thanks!
