Winter flowers

In the Pacific Northwest, our mild climate means some things are actually blooming in late December, if you look hard enough.

Jerusalem sage macro

The June photos are very appealing in these gray December days. Here’s a macro of part of a Jerusalem Sage flower. See here for its full, goofy shape in the garden.

Apple blossoms on the tree

Another photo from my April birthday this year, the columnar apple tree in my backyard. These blossoms are now applesauce in my freezer!

Pink dogwood tree

Back to the archives, from April. My birthday, in fact. I love the big pink dogwood tree in my backyard, next to the magnolia tree not quite blooming yet.

Hardy fuchsia macro

Yesterday I went outside to bring in all the plants that needed to come in ahead of the arctic weather we’re having right now, and took a few minutes to enjoy the bright sunshine and the last, last flowers blooming.
