Pond at Highline Botanical Garden

Nothing as delightful as a bit of water splashing into a pond, is there? This scenic view was taken a few weeks ago at the Highline Botanical Garden, south of Seattle. The gardeners in this area, the Pacific Northwest, are very skilled at combining leaves and textures for a subtle but lovely effect. It’s an Asian influence, I understand.

Visit Watery Wednesday and Outdoor Wednesday for more of the same, and try SOOC (straight out of the camera) and Scenic Sunday as well. Weekend Reflections has some fascinating visual reflections for your enjoyment.

Be sure to try something new here; maybe search for “Highline” to see other shots taken in that lovely garden area. If you see only one post here, click on Sara’s Fave Photos for the full blog.

Pepper strings

These strings of hot chili peppers on display outside the Pike Place Market are just the coolest thing. Their colorful brilliance and abundance thrills me. This time I had to buy a string, ready for soups and stews this winter.

Visit Ruby Tuesday for more perfect reds, Color Carnival for bright colors, Outdoor Wednesday for outdoor things, and SOOC for more straight-out-of-the-camera shots. And do visit Best Post of the Week, for other people’s fave posts.

While you’re here, be sure to visit a new tag or category, or search for something off the wall. You can return to the full blog (if only one post shows here) by clicking on Sara’s Fave Photos.

Late garden bouquet

The weather in Seattle was so cool for most of the summer that the cosmos didn’t get going until the end of September, and they are supposed to be summer annuals! The good part is that those flowers, so late in starting, are now blooming like crazy, so my backyard border (shown from my bedroom window) is filled with huge bushes of cosmos, taller than I am. The roses are few but company coming called for a bouquet.

Visit Ruby Tuesday for more ruby redness gracing all kinds of photos. Color Carnival has more bright colors. Scenic Sunday as always shows us scenery around the world. Windows and Doors has lots of ’em, creatively seen. And SOOC has more straight-out-of-the-camera shots. A new meme, Monthly Garden Bouquet, features photos of blooms from your garden.

Spathiphyllum or peace lily

I used to grow a Spathiphyllum plant like this in the old days when I had lots of houseplants. It actually flowered for me, which is remarkable. The leaves are a nice, dark green and it can manage on pretty low light and some neglect. This lovely specimen, recently seen in the Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle, was multi-flowering.

Visit Shadow Shot Sunday down at Hey Harriet’s blog for more intriguing photos with shadows creatively seen, Today’s Flowers, Windors and Doors, Blue Monday and Macro Flowers Saturday.

Cedar tree

This huge old cedar tree is what I first loved about this house. It’s actually hard to take a good photo of a tree, especially such a big one. This photo is hot out of the camera, as the weather cleared up nicely this afternoon and I just shot it.

Enjoy more shadows at Shadow Shot Sunday, the Hey Harriet blog. Scenic Sunday has more endlessly varied scenery.

While you’re here, you might try a new tag or search “tree” for other photos you might like. Or the My Garden category? To get to the latest post here, always click on Sara’s Fave Photos, here or above.

Colorful peppers

If you love peppers you’ve got to get down to the Pike Place market and see the peppers. What a display! Is there anything prettier than a pack of perfect peppers? Last year I bought a string of them and they dried nicely to use in soups and stews all winter long.

I love this photo and am tagging it Best Post of the Week.

Visit Ruby Tuesday and Color Carnival for more great photos on a color theme. And this one is straight out of the camera, or SOOC. While you’re here you might as well try a new category. Vegetables/Fruits, perhaps? And to get to the latest post here, you can click on Sara’s Fave Photos, here or above.

Succulent shadows

All cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti. This is a succulent plant maybe a foot (35 cm) or so across that I found on a recent sunny day at the Volunteer Park Conservatory. So vigorous and strong looking!

Visit the Hey Harriet blog for more Shadow Sunday posts, and SOOC for more straight-out-of-the-camera shots. But before you go, be sure to try a new category or tag here. Always get back to the latest post easily by clicking on Sara’s Fave Photos, here or above.

Colorful dishes

Went to a new friend’s house and was so happy to see these cheerful plates in her kitchen. I love the colors! And did you notice that the plates are all in the same color order? Now that’s neat, in more ways than one.

Visit Ruby Tuesday, Blue Monday and Color Carnival for more very colorful photos, SOOC for more straight-out-of-the-camera shots and Weekend Reflections for more neat reflections.

Gazebo

Our recent visit to Anacortes, WA to go crabbing with friends was topped off by a lovely late-day stroll from the Cap Sante marina to a nearby gazebo. There’s no way it shows up at this resolution, but there’s actually a line of birds flying low in the sky near the gazebo. I love the light at this time of day. It’s brief, but everything looks like it is dipped in gold.

Visit Scenic Sunday for other scenic shots. And you might try the “scenic” tag while you are here, first. If you’ve arrived from a link or search engine, be sure to click on Sara’s Fave Photos above for the latest post.

I like this photo very, very much. I might frame it. Anyway, I’ve tagged it Best Post of the Week.

Leafy road

This road that I saw on a neighborhood walk is an invitation to me. What’s down there? I want to explore, but don’t think the owners would appreciate my strolling into their space. But my curiosity sure is piqued. What do you imagine is there?

Scenic Sunday has more interesting and beautiful outdoor photos, and SOOC has more straight out of the camera shots. Go check it out.
