Seattle rose garden

Here’s a view at Seattle’s Woodland Park Rose Garden, from a June solstice a few years ago. It’s been raining here, or completely overcast, since the second week in October and I, for one, want to look at sunshine and flowers. Hope you do, too.

Volunteer Park Conservatory in sunshine

Less than three weeks gone by and it seems like another era. The sun is done and the rains have come. Here’s what Seattle’s iconic Volunteer Park Conservatory looked like in our amazing summer which lasted until the middle of October. I think this image is great photo journalism and I’m calling it my Best Post of the Week.

Arboretum path

Just a week or so ago, before the rain came, this stretch of Seattle’s Arboretum was glorious in the sunshine. Shall we take a stroll to that tiny bench in the distance?

Cactus flower dahlia

Seattle’s Volunteer Park has a spectacular and beautifully tended Dahlia Garden with hundreds of varieties, and now’s the time to visit. With the unusually sunny weather we’ve been having, gardens are so happy, even though more water is needed. It’s on the big lawn across from the Conservatory. If you can, get there while it’s still at its peak. I’ve added a photo of the garden sign so you can find it easily if you go there.

Dumas Bay Center view

A few weeks ago I was at a charity event at the Dumas Bay Center in Federal Way, Washington. It’s right at the water, of course, and the broad lawn is perfect for outdoor celebrations. Hope you enjoy view.

I’m participating in A Piece of Heaven, Skywatch Friday, Outdoor Wednesday, SOOC Sunday (straight out of the camera), Scenic Sunday and Shadow Shot Sunday 2. Do a search for Path or Tree while you are here? Thanks for visiting and please, come back soon.

Fort Ebey, WA

This old fort on Whidbey Island in Washington used to watch for Japanese invasion in World War II. You can still see the bunkers and where the big guns were, just in case. Now it’s used for parasailing and the occasional tourist. Wonderful space that made me happy.

Centennial celebration

Sunday was Victorian Day, the special 100-year birthday party for one of my top fave places on the planet, the Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle. The weather was perfect, and many, many people worked hard to make such a fun and creative event. The period costumes were fabulous! I love the pose of the woman and I’m calling it my Best Post of the Week.

Meadow rue macro

Last year I posted a photo of the leaves of this lovely garden perennial, meadow rue, and here are the flowers. Each little puff is about the width of my finger, and the flowers are on top of a nice, tall plant at my eye level, which I appreciate. Perennials are the stars of the garden, as far as I am concerned. You get them going and they just keep doing their thing, all by themselves. So helpful!

It’s very hard to get the color exactly right. They are really a soft lavender, but this photo looks kind of magenta pink-ish. Sometimes photography seems so simple but is so challenging when you want to get an accurate rendering of color. I do my best, which is all anyone can do.

Forsythia hedge in Connecticut

Visiting the New York area last week, I got to travel a bit around the Greenwich, CT area. With a spring landscape that can’t be beat, bursting into bloom from the warm weather they’d been having, I was in photo heaven when I saw this forsythia hedge just exploding in front of me. The sun peeked out and snap! I got it. Lucky me!

Willow tree reflections

My recent trip to the East coast included a few days in scenic Connecticut. Springtime is in full array there, with the trees leafing out, ahead of cool and wet Seattle. I love the reflections of the willow trees and bare branches in the mirror pond and hope you do, too. I’m calling it my my Best Post of the Week.
