Lilacs and tulips

These lilacs were growing in a neighbor’s front yard on a recent walk. The sky was quite gray and overcast but the magic of a digital camera gave me an exposure that’s almost sunshiny. On the same walk, another neighbor’s Blushing Lady tulips really made me envious. Last year I had some Blushing Lady tulips that were the stars of my spring garden, with huge, almost 6″ blossoms on stems almost a yard (meter) tall. This year they totally failed to come back, where other tulips happily multiplied. But at least my neighbor has had success with them. Aren’t they pretty?

Pink dogwood

Our pink dogwood tree is in full bloom. What a lovely sight. I am grateful to the people who planted this tree many years ago. Plant trees whenever you can! If you won’t be there to see it in its full glory, someone else will. And you never know, do you? Time has a way of slipping away so fast.

Visit Macro Flowers Saturday, Pink Saturday and SOOC (straight out of the camera) after your visit here. Click on Sara’s Fave Photos above any time you’d like to return to the latest photo on this blog.

My yard

The top photo shows the tulips around the rosebed in front of the house, with our neighbor’s house behind them. It was a good idea to plant them there as the roses haven’t got going yet. This year the roses will be early and have set buds already, at least some of them.

The next one is taken from near that neighbor’s house, looking towards the side and backyard of our house, showing that big old cedar tree. Don’t those old rhodies look good? If they had fragrance I’d love them even more.

Photo heaven

This person was one of a jillion photographers entranced, as I was, at the incredible displays of flowers. Roozengaarden is just one of the paid tulip gardens in the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. This year we paid their $4 admission, what the heck, but it was so worth it. Mind boggling.

Visit Thursday Challenge for more Green-themed photos (or Plants, Spring Growth, Gardens, Clothing, Green Things…). Color Carnival has more amazingly brilliant color.

Magnolia extravaganza

Our Japanese magnolia tree out back has been so beautiful this year. I took these photos in the last week. Which do you like the best? The top one (#1)? The bottom (#5)?

Visit Blooming Friday for more things flowering now (and sadly the last week for this great meme), Pink Saturday and Macro Flowers Saturday, too. Click on Sara’s Fave Photos above to return to the full blog with my latest post on top.

Our first tulip

The bags of tulip bulbs we planted around the front roses in the fall are up, and the first one has opened! See Macro Monday and Mellow Yellow Monday for versions of the theme.

And the delightful grape hyacinths (muscari) in the back yard are coming up so well. This is their second year and they are quite respectable looking. I love how easy they are, that they spread nicely, and that they are practically evergreen and leaf up super early. Visit Blue Monday for more blue things.

And check out Color Carnival for more brilliant colors! And I like this post so much I’ve tagged it Best Post of the Week.

Kubota Garden shadows

Another photo from the visit to the Japanese garden south of Seattle, Kubota Garden. Note the cherry blossom petals on the walkway, and the darling hellebore flowers in the upper left. Late afternoon heaven!

Visit Shadow Shot Sunday for more intriguing shadows. It’s a delightful collection, each and every week.
