Blooming cactus

This photo is by Jacinta Moore and if I could have figured out a way to ask her permission I would have, and I sure hope she doesn’t mind. I love this image! But check out her Flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bawkbawk/. And by the way, did you know that Google Images has a reverse search for the author of an image that you have the link to? You go to the Google Images main page, and in the search bar is a little image of a camera. Click on it, then enter the URL of the photo you are trying to search for and most of the time it finds where it came from. Thanks, Lila!

Autumn leaves macro

Went outside and even though the weather was cloudy, the colors of the leaves are fabulous. I love the autumn colors so much. I also love this post and am calling it my Best Post of the Week.

Japanese maple with red stems

I took this photo of a red-twig Japanese maple beginning to show fall color a few years ago on this date. As my skills improve (and do you think that the 1,359 photo blog posts and the over five years of photo blogging might have something to do with that?) I find that I can go back to images that were pretty good and with a few subtle tweaks, give me an image I love. I hope you like this one, taken on a Seattle sidewalk.

Sunlit autumn leaves

Heart-shaped leaves express how I feel about this season. The light coming through the leaves really makes me happy.

Dahlia bouquet with lilies

At the Renton (WA) Fall Harvest Festival on Saturday, I was surprised to see these bouquets of dahlias that included intensely fragrant lilies. The ones in my garden have long been finished. I bought some and the entire house is filled with their scent.

Fresh carrots

Saw these at the farmer’s market. Aren’t they gorgeous? Makes me want to just grab one and chomp on it.

Ferry boat at dusk

This ferry-in-the-sunset photo is very similar to one I posted about three years ago, but I think it deserves a re-run. I had just gotten my new camera and hadn’t mastered all the settings (not that I’ve done so by now) and it needed a tad of adjustment, but hardly any. Those are the Olympic Mountains in the distance.

Bowman Bay at dusk

Bowman Bay at Deception Pass in Washington is an incredibly scenic place where you can camp right near the water. We were there last year at this time, and this photo is a companion to the one I posted from that trip here. I love this post and am calling it my Best Post of the Week.

Cherry tomatoes

My tomatoes look and taste great this year. Last year many of them split, which was so disappointing. What I learned was that happened because I had underwatered, so the tomatoes had thick, tough skins which burst when the plant got a good dousing when it rained. This year I was better about the watering and it made a big difference. Also I used better fertilizer, added alfalfa meal at planting, AND went out with a dry paintbrush when it was flowering to try to get better fruit set. Something worked!
