This rose is from the OTHER solstice, the summer one, but I show it with a nod to our Down Under friends. For us in the throes of darkness in the Northern Hemisphere, here is an image to remind us that as the earth tips tonight, it is bringing us ever closer to the light.

Found these huge bouquets of roses on a corner in Manhattan on the upper East side for $10, cash only. They even smelled good!

I saw this in the New York City Cloisters herb garden post below. The full name on the sign was “Horn of Plenty, Downy Thorn Apple, Datura metel (Solanaceae).” They say it is poisonous, but so lovely!
