Lily bouquet

Today’s visit to the flower vendors in Seattle’s Pike Place Market was fabulous, as usual. They have lilies (and sweetpeas) in magnificent quanties, combined in surprising and unique bouquet combinations as always. This one with a lily and a happy jumble of other garden flowers beats out any supermarket bunch any day.

Visit Macro Flowers Saturday for more flower close ups, and Color Carnival for more brilliant color. This one is straight out of the camera, or SOOC, too. And try a new tag or category here while you’re here, returning to the full blog at Sara’s Fave Photos as always.

Blue anemone

Not really blue, more blue violet, this anemone (a-NEH-moan-ee) is blooming WAY late, it seems to me, but I am happy to see it grace the early summer garden like this. Such a cutie.

Visit Macro Flowers Saturday and see more lovely blooms and SOOC to see more straight-out of-the-camera shots. If wandering around this site, try a new search term like Tulip or Begonia. Why not? Return to the full blog by clicking Sara’s Fave Photos above.

Bouquet

One of the very best things about the Pike Place Market flower vendors is their complete disregard for typical florist combinations. No one told them that bouquets are not supposed to be made with regular old garden flowers. Since they must sell only what they grow, the combinations that result are not seen anywhere else. Below is a bouquet with a Shirley poppy (I think), lupine or bluebonnet in the back, and Dutch iris.

Lilac macro

Just got back from a getaway in Port Townsend, WA, a very lovely seaside town. This lilac was blooming in the yard of the place where we stayed. The sun peeked out and I ran out to get the photo. A minute later all was gray, the way spring skies can be.

Iris bud

This iris growing against my house is actually a lovely shade of lavendar when open, almost an orchid color. The stems are very tall, almost five feet (!) and they are the old fashioned kind with a sweet scent,  almost a bubblegum kind of smell. I took a number of photos of the open blossoms but liked this one best.

Does anyone know of a meme dedicated to the color purple? I thought I saw one once but now can’t find it. This would be a great post for it, if it exists.

We had lovely weather in Seattle today. I hope you got to go outdoors, wherever you are.

Tulips in full color

This display of tulips outside of Roozengaarde in the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival was the ultimate for me. I just couldn’t get over it. The enormous planting outside their gate was filled with the most spectacular displays of tulips I ever saw. Yes, the $4 admission to the totally magnificent displays inside was well worth the money, but this group of brilliant colors was the most amazing sight of the whole day, for me.

Photo note: For some reason, the technology of reproducing flower color isn’t always perfect, especially blue/purple tones. These purple tulips were the purest true purple in the world, but they look a little mauve-y or magenta here. Sorry, I tried.

Visit Ruby Tuesday for more red magnificence, and Color Carnival for more spectacular colors. And click on Sara’s Fave Photos to go back to the top of the blog.

Photo heaven

This person was one of a jillion photographers entranced, as I was, at the incredible displays of flowers. Roozengaarden is just one of the paid tulip gardens in the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. This year we paid their $4 admission, what the heck, but it was so worth it. Mind boggling.

Visit Thursday Challenge for more Green-themed photos (or Plants, Spring Growth, Gardens, Clothing, Green Things…). Color Carnival has more amazingly brilliant color.

Spring flowers at the Conservatory

I was at the Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle last week, and I thought I’d show you a photo of the marvellous planting of spring flowers outside. Those purple hyacinths just thrill me. Definitely drop by if you are in the area. And it’s free!

Check out Color Carnival for more brilliant colors.

Crocuses are up

We’ve had sunny weather for a week. I planted pea seeds (and nicked and soaked the sweet pea seeds to plant tomorrow) and took the usual stroll to see what has come up. Crocus!
