Almost Spring

Almost but not quite Spring; just a few more days until the calendar tells us it’s official. My forsythia is getting ready.

Rainbow bouquet at NWFGS

We are certainly missing the annual huge Seattle Northwest Flower & Garden Show/Festival, held every year in early spring but sadly cancelled this year due to COVID-19. I am very excited about things getting back to normal and gatherings opening up, not yet, but soon. Wear your mask and get vaccinated!

Soaking pea seeds

We’ve had three days of really nice weather—dry and not too cold. Time to start peas outside! I like to soak them for a few hours before they go in the ground. So exciting to be planting something for spring.

Purple hellebore

Hellebore flowers bloom wonderfully early. They usually have very nodding flowers, but this one is face-up!

Spring flowers

The little mini-daffodils are up! Spring will definitely get here, but first Seattle is due for some cold and snow this week. I’ll keep you posted.

Free calendar

In honor of Inauguration Day yesterday and the big change it represents for the USA, I created a 2021 photo calendar of beautiful bouquets, all taken over the last few years at Seattle’s NW Flower & Garden Festival (formerly the NW Flower & Garden Show). #NWFGS #NWFGF You are welcome to download and share this Bouquets 2021 Calendar.

If you print it out, I suggest at perhaps at 80% size (for even borders), centered on the page, printing on only ONE side of the page—a little craft project for you. Enjoy!

In the comments, I’d love to know your favorite photo page.

Spring flowers in containers

These lovely spring flowers were in a display at Wave Hill NY one March day a few years ago. Wouldn’t you love these on your front step?

Emerging bulbs

Went outside the other day in a dry break and was thrilled to see these bluebell sprouts pushing up already. It’s not even technically winter yet and they speak to us of spring.

Rose garden

The front roses getting ready for their first bloom. This year the little bed with the foxgloves, hardy fuchsia, and armeria looks good, too.

Baby bird

My carport has at least one new occupant. Mama (or papa?) bird looked like a dark-eyed junco. Small bird with black head, brown on top of body. Hubby reached way up to snap this.
