Two big trees

Two large evergreen trees near my house. I think the one on the right is a cedar.

Scenic vista

It’s going to be raining for a week, so here’s a bit of sunny scenery to get you through it. This view is around the block from my house.

Fall color

I’m finally ready to admit it’s fall. Visiting a friend on Camano Island, north of Seattle, the colors are beginning.

Vanda orchid

At the last day before the recent temporary closure to complete the restoration at Seattle’s Volunteer Park Conservatory (reopening Dec. 6!), these purple vanda orchids did their amazing thing.

Fall hydrangea blossoms

Hydrangeas are some of my top fave flowers, blooming all summer and even looking good into the fall.

Cotoneaster berries

This is a close up of a cotoneaster (ka-tone-ee-AST-er) shrub in our yard, beloved by birds and photographers alike. The berries are small, about the size of a pea, and they adorn the arching branches in fall and winter. I was amazed to learn its pronunciation, by the way. I was sure it would be something like cotton-Easter. But no.

Lake Cushman reflections

Our recent camping trip to the Lake Cushman area in the Olympic Peninsula in Washington had sunshine and reflections on still water.

Horse and rider in the park

At Seattle’s Volunteer Park on Sunday, there was a horse, a rider and a person walking.

Dahlia macro

Volunteer Park in Seattle has a dahlia garden, very well maintained by the local Dahlia Society. The other day the sun was shining, and I was happy to see this.

Orchids at the Conservatory

Today was the last day that Seattle’s Volunteer Park Conservatory was open to visitors so that the long-awaited restoration project can be completed. Look for the grand re-opening in early December.

A beautiful last day for the orchids at the Conservatory, until re-opening in December, a mere two months or so away.
