Pink astrantia

Only three short weeks ago, this bloomed in my garden. Astrantia is one of my new favorite perennials. It bloomed and bloomed and bloomed, and seemed to be perfectly fine in quite a bit of shade. With pretty and unusually shaped leaves to boot, what more could you want from a garden plant?

Visit Macro Friday, Pink Saturday and Macro Flowers Saturday if you have a chance. This one is SOOC, or straight out of the camera, too. If you’ve found only one photo below, click on Sara’s Fave Photos for more.

Decorative kale

Kale can be quite delicious if you cook it right, but this kind is just for pretty, as my mom used to say. A local nursery had such a nice collection. It’s practically a flower, don’t you think?

Visit Macro Friday for more macros of all kinds. This one is SOOC, or straight out of the camera. And as usual, if there’s just one photo here, click on Sara’s Fave Photos for the full blog.

I like the lighting on this post a lot so I’ve put it in the Best Post of the Week category. I hope you agree.

Pink pansies

Had a half hour to kill so I went to a local nursery, just to browse around. Time well spent, believe me. I’ll show the amazing pumpkins and gourds they displayed in another post. Here are just some perfect pink pansies in the afternoon light.

Visit Pink Saturday for more pretty pinkness, and Macro Flowers Saturday, too. Some shadows qualify it for Shadow Shot Sunday, and it’s also SOOC or straight out of the camera.

If you only see the one photo below, do click on Sara’s Fave Photos for access to the whole shebang.

I’m going to be away for a few days, so look for some new stuff when I get back on Wednesday. Ta-ta!

Mt. Rainier at sunset

That overlook near my house in Normandy Park, Washington didn’t disappoint in yesterday’s good weather at sunset. Mount Rainier is lookin’ picture-postcard good. Those tiny orange-leafed trees and houses seem very much like a painting that I’ve seen somewhere. And did you realize that even though it’s pronounced rah-NEER, it’s spelled like “rain-ier” (rainy-er!) which I think is a hoot. And that helps you remember to put in both i’s.

Visit Skywatch Friday for more skies around the world, and Scenic Sunday for more scenery (of course).

One post only on this page means there’s lots more to see if you click on Sara’s Fave Photos. Do try something new here, perhaps a search for “Rainier”?

Yellow leaf

You can tell by the mossy tree-post and the new-grass emerald green lawn that we’ve had lots of rain this year. This month alone we had about 5 inches (13 cm), which is double for a normal October. It has made for a magnificent fall leaf season, at least when the sun’s out to appreciate it. And doesn’t the macro setting on a camera yield the best effects? Even a point and shoot can do it.

Mellow Yellow Monday has more yellow in photos (it’s cool how different the participants all are) and Macro Monday has close ups, also quite a variety. Scenic Sunday shows the scenery, natch!

If you’d like to see the full blog here, click on Sara’s Fave Photos. And you might as well try a new category or tag (like “yellow”) to see what comes up.

Autumn leaves against the sky

Looking upwards (or downwards) can sometimes really perk up a photo. This one is hot off the memory card, taken just this afternoon. The day started off beautifully sunny after a week of rain, and I was hot to photograph some of those incredible leaves before another rain system removed them forever. But when I could get outside, it was starting to be overcast—not the best sky for photographs of glorious fall color. But looking upwards yielded some blue, a perfect complement for the flaming orange leaves.

Visit Skywatch Friday for more skies seen around the world. Color Carnival has more bright colors, and SOOC has more straight-out-of-the-camera shots.

Leaves of red and gold

Here’s another photo from that walk in the Wallingford, WA neighborhood I took a few days ago. A little sunshine, some pretty leaves, my trusty S90 Canon in my pocket, and a few minutes to stroll equals happiness in my book.

Visit Thursday Challenge for more photos with the theme of Gold. This is also a good one for Scenic Sunday, Color Carnival and SOOC or straight-out-of-the-camera photos. Cropping is OK for that meme, but I mostly don’t. That’s what viewfinders are for.

Be sure to check out some other tags or categories here. How about “autumn”? If you’ve arrived by a link, the latest photos are always at Sara’s Fave Photos.

Late garden bouquet

The weather in Seattle was so cool for most of the summer that the cosmos didn’t get going until the end of September, and they are supposed to be summer annuals! The good part is that those flowers, so late in starting, are now blooming like crazy, so my backyard border (shown from my bedroom window) is filled with huge bushes of cosmos, taller than I am. The roses are few but company coming called for a bouquet.

Visit Ruby Tuesday for more ruby redness gracing all kinds of photos. Color Carnival has more bright colors. Scenic Sunday as always shows us scenery around the world. Windows and Doors has lots of ’em, creatively seen. And SOOC has more straight-out-of-the-camera shots. A new meme, Monthly Garden Bouquet, features photos of blooms from your garden.

If you’ve arrived via a link, the latest photos here are at Sara’s Fave Photos.

Autumn leaves looking upwards

There’s nothing like a walk on a sunny day in autumn. I happened to look up and saw these leaves glittering in the sunlight. Some even seem to be heart-shaped!

Visit Macro Monday and Mellow Yellow Monday for more close ups and more yellow.

You can search here for whatever you’d like to find, or just a click on a tag or category can yield lots of fun. But to find the very latest post, click on Sara’s Fave Photos.

Cap Sante marina

Last month we got to go crabbing with our friends with a boat, which they keep at the Cap Sante marina in Anacortes, WA. As we were getting ready to go home with our crabs, the light turned soft and pink. Photo op!

Visit Watery Wednesday, Outdoor Wednesday, Weekend Reflections and Scenic Sunday for more great photos. And the Thursday Challenge this week is “Peaceful.” I’m going to say this qualifies.

I like this photo very much and am calling it my Best Post of the Week. Hope you agree.

Do browse around here first, trying a new tag or category if you feel adventurous. Returning to the latest post (if you’ve arrived from a link) is easy: just click on Sara’s Fave Photos above or here.

This post is brought to you by BoaterExam Washington: Do you have your Washington State boating license? Spring and summer are just around the corner, and our question is: Do you have your boaters education card?  It’s now mandatory for anyone operating a water craft to have some sort of formal training and a boater education card. So instead of spending hours in a classroom, why not pursue your Washington boating license online, in the comfort of your own home? Don’t miss a good thing that can save you a lot of trouble!
